About this listen

An NFL player with a secret past, and the one woman with the power to turn his world inside out....

Former actress Emma Rothschild is partying in Vegas in disguise. But I'm not fooled. Five years ago, I knew that body better than my own, and I haven't forgotten a single detail.

When Emma's unexpectedly left alone in Sin City, I agree to spend the weekend with her. As friends. Why not? If I can knock down the toughest guys in the NFL, I'm strong enough to keep my hands to myself, even if she is the sexiest woman I've ever met.

Emma is part of my past - years so shrouded in secrets that not even my best friends know the truth about who I am. I'm a single dad now and not interested in revisiting my old ways or trying to win back the only woman I ever let close enough to break my heart.

Falling Hard is a sexy and emotional novel intended for mature listeners. It's the fourth book in the world of the Blackhawk Boys, but can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Football. Secrets. Lies. Passion. These boys don't play fair. Which Blackhawk Boy will steal your heart?

I was happy to dive into this one immediately after finishing book 3. The suspense element was a nice addition to this sports romance. It was a quick and entertaining read!

Unexpectedly intense.

FALLING HARD is book 4 of a series, but a standalone. It’s the first I’ve read by Lexi Ryan, and it didn’t matter that I read it out of order. There were no spoilers about the other books in the series.

This novel is well written and I found myself hooked by the story-line. I was particularly impressed with how the author seamlessly weaved her story back and forth from the present to the past and back again, revealing events of the past that affected the present. It was a clever device for producing a story that was SHOW not TELL. And I liked that the past was not too long ago – five years.

I was lulled into a pleasant romance about very likeable protagonists who loved each other once and had a second-chance at happiness – and so it took many chapters for me to comprehend that the novel included story-lines I like to avoid in romances – insidious, evil people manipulating the hero and heroine’s lives. It was uncomfortable and intense reading at times. However, the writer chose impeccable timing to introduce dark themes (right when I was too invested to stop reading), and she did it in a way that was not “in your face,” so to speak, therefore more palatable, enabling me to finish her novel. And I’m glad I did, because ultimately, it’s very satisfying when a hero and heroine I love and care about defeat the demons of their pasts (and present) and come out on top, completely secure in their love for each other. That happened here, leaving me smiling.

Although I was impressed by the author and riveted by this story, I prefer more upbeat adult themes. I hope Lexi Ryan has written some, because she’s a good find.

The narrators, Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne, also both new to me, did a great job creating a pleasurable listening experience.

Great romantic series

These storylines, in the Blackhawk Boys series, have depth and humbling storylines. The romances are built on the couples sharing past and troubling incidents in their lives. Definitely worth listening too/reading.

Drug out chapters

This story could have ended several chapters before it did. I guess the author just had to keep adding repetitive words and inner monologue to add chapters. I will not read another book by this author. The storyline was good, but I cannot stand drama that just drags on for chapters for no reason.

Pretty good

Good story line outside the romance. Interesting characters. Good dialogue. Some hot scenes. It does drag on a bit, though. Great voice acting.
