About this listen
Fake News, A Novel is a work of fiction. It speaks, however, to a new reality which surveys say has led to a historically high distrust in our news media. This audiobook could not have been credibly written 25 years ago. Even as a work of fiction, it is very relevant today.
Troy Wilson is the pen name for a former journalist who spent more than 30 years working in television news. He achieved many professional accomplishments over that time employed mostly as a manager of television newsrooms across the United States. He would tell you however, that his greatest accomplishment was the recruiting, training, and mentoring of hundreds of talented journalists. His achievements in television news have not come from what he did himself, but through the efforts of the teams he helped build and mentor. Troy has retired from the news business, but remains a "news junkie" of sorts today.

Story
You Can’t Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn’s idiosyncratic life. It’s about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very far—and whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder…or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country’s first Black president.

An American Iliad in the guise of contemporary political reportage, What It Takes penetrates the mystery at the heart of all presidential campaigns: How do presumably ordinary people acquire that mixture of ambition, stamina, and pure shamelessness that makes a true candidate? As he recounts the frenzied course of the 1988 presidential race, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Richard Ben Cramer comes up with the answers, in a book that is vast, exhaustively researched, exhilarating, and sometimes appalling in its revelations.

The Missing JFK Assassination Film is not the typical JFK assassination book. This book does not attempt to answer the question of who killed John F. Kennedy; instead it addresses why we should question the actions of those involved and why the truth was withheld from the people. Though copies of Orville Nix's film exist, the original film is missing. Why? The FBI confiscated Orville's camera for several months, then returned it in pieces. Were these actions sinister, or were they just examples of governmental incompetence?

Story
Kenneth Ewald has what it takes to win the presidency: the support of his party, a lovely wife, a dynamic campaign. What neither he nor any candidate needs is a corpse. He knows only one man capable of solving a crime, clearing his son, putting his campaign back on track and catching a killer: his best friend Mac Smith. Oddly enough, it was Mac and his dog Rufus who found the body in the first place.

Story
If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION:
"Fake News, A Novel" by Troy Wilson is a gripping work of fiction that brilliantly navigates the complexities of the modern information landscape. Set against the backdrop of a society grappling with an unprecedented level of distrust in the media, Wilson's novel is both timely and thought-provoking. His storytelling is solid, weaving a narrative that is as compelling as it is relevant to our current times.
What sets this audiobook apart is its deep dive into the nuances of how news is consumed, shared, and manipulated.
Coming from the world of television, and news in particular, I can attest to the truth woven throughout this fictional tale.
Wilson's characters are vividly drawn, each navigating the murky waters of truth and misinformation in their unique ways. The plot is engaging, drawing listeners in with its twists and turns, and the pacing is pleasant, keeping you hooked from start to finish.
The production quality of the audiobook is engaging, with a narrator who brings the story to life. The ability to capture the essence of each character and the mood of the story adds an extra layer of immersion to the listening experience.
"Fake News, A Novel" is not just a story; it's a reflection on the state of our world today. It challenges listeners to think critically about the information they consume and to consider the consequences of the erosion of trust in our media. This novel could indeed not have been as credibly written 25 years ago, making it a must-listen for anyone interested in the intersection of media, politics, and society.
In an age where the truth is often stranger than fiction, Troy Wilson's work is a beacon of creativity and insight. It's a compelling reminder of the power of fiction to illuminate our reality, making "Fake News, A Novel" a significant contribution to contemporary literature and a highly recommended audiobook for those looking to be entertained and enlightened in equal measure.
