About this listen

A renowned sleep expert and a SoulCycle founding instructor team up to present a revolutionary science-based program to give you the energy you need to achieve your dreams.

Are you desperately seeking more energy? Dr. Breus and Stacey heard it every day from their clients, so they decided to do something about it: Write a book, and jump-start a movement. In Energize!, Dr. Breus and Stacey Griffith have teamed up to teach you how to get your groove back. Using the scientifically proven core principles of chronobiology and your biological body type (remember that from high school?), they offer an easy-to-understand, personalized program of small daily movements, sleeping and fasting on schedule, and mood hacks that will give listeners incredible energy, promote happiness, and fight off fatigue for good. Sounds too good to be true? Their program boils down to living the way nature and your DNA programmed you to live. But don’t worry, it's really simple - and super fun.

With fascinating science, quizzes so that listeners can identify their chronotype (lion, wolf, bear, or dolphin) and their body type (fast, medium, or slow metabolism), and easily implemented advice, Energize! will have you feeling happier and more energetic in 30 days.

Good information but challenging as an audiobook

The book has a lot of good information and I do believe that following their program could help energize a person. I really enjoyed the narration. It was fun and engaging as the authors popped in on occasion and read selections. Part one definitely lens itself more to an audiobook, except for the section on the exercises. I was listening to this in the car after a very long day and I was traveling from one state back home, and then I hit an entire chapter where the narrator is describing 25 different exercises in detail at different levels and that was not what I needed to help me stay awake as I drove. It might not have been bad if I had been listening to it at home at a time when I could try out each exercise as it was described.

Part two goes into more details as they gave an example profile of each of the types and how they might go through the program for that type. For my type, I listened with great interest. For the other types, I listened at two times speed just help me understand a little bit for people in my life who are different types than I am.

My primary complaint is that the supplemental material is lacking some key items. Early in the book they describe an exertion scale, that is something you never use in the program but it is included in the supplemental PDF. Along side that scale is an energy scale that you use to measure how much energy you have each day for five weeks. The energy scale is not in the supplemental material and that is a huge oversight!

I would also love to have a simple list of all the exercises in the supplemental material but it isn’t there. They send you to the website so that you can watch a video on how to perform the exercise, but not all the videos are there. Some of the videos are mislabeled. Some are missing. It is disappointing. Plus having a chart of what exercises belong in which category would be much more useful when I want to actually do the exercises then to have to bring up a website.

One of the useful things in the supplemental material are the quizzes. The quizzes are a little challenging to listen to as you’re going to try to mentally keep track of your answers and your score as you’re listening. So don’t worry about that knowing that the quiz is in the supplemental material.

Also, there is a schedule for every type as to when they should be doing each type of exercise as well as when they should start and stop eating. It would be super duper useful to have that information in print form as well! Sadly, it is not a part of the supplemental material.

Included in the material is sample energy diaries. That wasn’t useful at all and was a waste of ink and paper.

Overall I like the book, but I’m going to need to get a physical copy of it in order to actually do the program. I would recommend the physical book for this information over the audiobook. I also want to warn people who are sensitive to profanity that there is swearing in this book.

Liked it over all

Though some things annoyed me .

Why the , its me again , i’m back ? I mean it’s not a podcast.

I went through all the chronotypes then things just got very repetitive. Though it’s a similar information , could be better if it was not a copy paste (as it is audio just a playback of the same sections)

Super insightful but hard to follow the exercise

I think this is a pretty cool book! The tone is more conversational and it’s very engaging with the audience.
My only thing is the exercises can be included in the pdf. I appreciate the schedule is in the pdf but sometimes it’s hard to follow without having to go back to the audio.

Overall I really enjoyed the book

Nothing New Here

I'm very disappointed with this book. Maybe there are some gems somewhere back in the book, but the beginning hours contain nothing new and Stacey Griffith's "cute" little inserts are distracting and demeaning. Not worth my time!

Disappointed

The change in narrator does not add to the book. Using the resources on the website will result in numerous opportunities to purchase things from the author. This book is written for someone with a lifestyle that does not reflect most people's experience, eg dealing with jet lag.

Not the best for Audio book

The information in this book is great. Unfortunately you will need a hard copy of this book in order to properly follow. Unless your a transcriptionist. Will be buying a copy of the book.

Great Book and Content!

I loved this book and I swear I feel a difference. I definitely have more notable energy and I am down 5 pounds (cannot confirm it was because of this book, I have been working out more as well). The only negative part of the book is sometimes the readers voice can get annoying.
