About this listen

For all his twenty-one years, Zephyr has been a cultivator of the Carefree Path and a martial artist. He always assumed he would take the vows and become a monk, but his plans are thrown to the wind when he receives a letter from the Grand Sage to attend the Schools of Elemental Magic.

Gifted with the system known as the Codex of Ascension, Zephyr intends to master the various elements in record-breaking time. Alongside two other students who bear mysteriously similar origins, his school year promises to be more than he could have ever imagined.

Elemental Mastery

This is a well written series! I really enjoyed the mystery of it and the setting of the plot! The friendship of the 3 main characters evolves naturally and I love they work together to help each other with their weaknesses and strengths!

This is a pretty good series.

This is the first series I've read from D. B. King and it was pretty darn good.
Do we get to find out if the 3 main characters that were all born on the same day are actually 3 parts of a great being? They are definitely more powered than most around them.
Gotta read the book to find out.
It's really nice to have the whole series in one book.
I'm giving this book/series 7 out of 5 stars.

Okay for a long road trip

The story had a unique angle to it, where 3 MCs shared a past hero's soul, allowing each of the characters to share each other's acquired spells. While the primary of the MC's was somewhat level-headed, the other two were just horrible to listen to. Each had personality quirks going from high-strung to no-filter opinionated, neither of which made for garnering any investment in them. I stopped listening early into Book 2.

Alex Perone's performance is generally very good but his rendition of the 2 secondary MCs was off-putting.

mediocre at best

I'm about 25% of the way through and wow is it bad.

The voice acting feels like a caricature of humans.

The writing feels like it was someone's first book and the characters are all boring and unremarkable.

The plot devices are all heavy handed and predictable, and it's full of all the worst tropes: he Chosen Ones are all overpower and constantly doing impossible thing, Legendary loots are dropping like candy and it feels like there is no agency in the characters.

I'll stick it out till the end, but it's really hard to connect with or care about the characters in any way. there is zero suspense, everything is utterly predictable and boring, so much so that I find myself zoning out.

I can see this being really enjoyable for a child or tween that is really into fantasy as a springboard to better books, but beyond that, it's pretty meh.

Too overpowered

Too overpowered , it was just way too easy to see story line . I powered through it because it was almost free
