What would you risk to prevent a murder?

Private investigator Merrill Monroe enlists the services of detective John Jordan to protect Malia Goodman, a civil rights and police shooting activist with a target on her back.

But Merrill doesn’t just want John to help protect Malia, he wants him to find out who’s trying to kill her and help him stop them.

Malia is surrounded on all sides by suspects - rogue cops, homegrown terrorists, right-wing militants, and even some supposed friends very close to her - and Merrill wonders if even John Jordan, with his considerable skills and experience, can figure out who the killer is before it’s too late.

Can John save a life? What about the would-be killer’s very soul? Or is Malia fated to be another martyr for the cause of justice and equality?

Book 1 was a good listen, book 2 however...

Book 1 had a great story line, taken from the headlines of present day. Preventing a school shooting and the investigation leading up to it. No one has did a story line from before the event, so it was unique. The book kept me guessing about who was guilty. The MC John, is a John McClane from Die Hard type, a good cop with some bad habits. This type of character has been over played. I enjoyed the storyline. Book 2... not so much.

Too Simplistic.

The narrator was not bad .not at all but I was so. so so tired of hearing I said...she said...he said....blah blah blah. but I didn't say...blah blah ( usually a lame joke).I keep reading these trying to understand the POV of the protagonist's religious ideas .Also hoping his best friend's Ebonics goes away.I work in a big place .lots of all different races.I don't think I've heard that much of that stuff ever IRL. I will probably read more but will not suffer through the narration.I grew up on the Gulf Coast .FWB.Thats the big draw for me.
