About this listen

A one-page tool to reinvent yourself and your career. The global best seller Business Model Generation introduced a unique visual way to summarize and creatively brainstorm any business or product idea on a single sheet of paper. Business Model You uses the same powerful one-page tool to teach listeners how to draw "personal business models," which reveal new ways their skills can be adapted to the changing needs of the marketplace to reveal new, more satisfying, career and life possibilities.

Produced by the same team that created Business Model Generation, this audiobook is based on the Business Model Canvas methodology, which has quickly emerged as the world's leading business model description and innovation technique.

This book shows listeners how to:

  • Understand business model thinking and diagram their current personal business model
  • Understand the value of their skills in the marketplace and define their purpose
  • Articulate a vision for change
  • Create a new personal business model harmonized with that vision
  • And most important, test and implement the new model

When you implement the one-page tool from Business Model You, you create a game-changing business model for your life and career.

Good guide on applying the business model canvas to yourself

Look at yourself as a business, regardless of whether you are employed, a consultant, coach … ask yourself the hard questions and validate the answers.

Very good career discovery and development tool

Overall the methodology, tools, and practices described in this book are excellent. Useful to anyone from student to mid-career professional looking to change their career to anyone looking to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship to their career, though the methodology, tools, and practices can be applied beyond that as well.

I think the book could have been more concise, but it's still worth the time to read and apply the concepts presented.

Content in audiobook is different from the content in book

I have a physical copy of the book, and I wanted to underline things as I heard, but the audiobook is different from the physical book

Most of the “juicy stuff” in this book is on YouTube

Before I downloaded this audiobook, I watched quite a few YouTube videos on how to build a business model. I found the audiobook had a lot of additional anecdotes (personal stories about how people have applied their business model in their lives and businesses), but the “juicy stuff” — the explanation of what the parts of a business model mean and how to fill out the business model layout — that stuff was all on YouTube. This book didn’t provide any fundamental explanations beyond what’s available online. I’m not a big fan of hearing other people’s anecdotes, so I’m not going to recommend this book to anyone who’s just searching for guidelines in making a business model of your own. But it’s okay if you like hearing other people’s business model stories. It does have a lot of those. That’s just not my thing really.

Not a good book for audio.

What disappointed you about Business Model You?

The book uses frameworks, diagrams and lists which dont' translate to well to the purely audio format. There are parts where the narrator goes on for minutes reading lists of words (yawn).
I have read the hard copy version Business Model Generation - the book on which this is based - so maybe I should have known better. But I found that book so very useful, that I was eager to try the 'personal' version. Additional editing is required to make this a useful audio book.
