Publisher's summary

Number one best seller

I’ll protect her...whether she likes it or not.

Riona Griffin is gorgeous, intelligent, and iron-willed. My perfect woman, except she hates my guts. She thinks she doesn’t need anybody. But she needs me.

She’s being hunted by an assassin who never misses his mark.

I’m going to stay by her side, day and night, keeping her safe. Riona thinks that’s a fate worse than death, but I know she’ll learn to love me.

If this hit man wants to kill her, he’ll have to go through me first.

Broken Vow is the wild and dangerous fifth installment in the Brutal Birthright series. It's a stand-alone bodyguard mafia romance with a HEA and no cliff-hanger. Contains steamy scenes.

Broken Vow🔥🔥🔥

Where do I begin?I didn’t think I was going to be so engaged with Riona’s story but I was completely hooked. From the previous book I was entertained by the dynamic between her and Raylan and was curious how it would play out when the two of them were in close proximity. It all starts with an attempt on Riona’s life and her need for a bodyguard cause Raylan who she only lets do this because she trusts Dante. They pick at each other and it becomes clear early on that Riona is wound so tight she’s going to do damage. It’s nice being in her head because she becomes a lot more sympathetic and understandable she’s not cold she’s scared.Raylan on the other hand buried his own demons by taking care of others. Both of them have confront who they are and what they want during this wild journey. In the others the threat is a known factor or tied to the love interest. In this the threat to Riona is a giant unknown the source of the hit on her is as mysterious as the very sneaky hit man. They search in a lot of directions with no results and nearly deadly consequences. This is a romance novel so you know our two leads survive, but the tension in how exactly that's going to happen is definitely high.

The spice in this one is also phenomenal. The first time R&R get spicy together I thought my phone was going to start on fire. It wasn't just what they were doing, it's how Lark wrote about it, and what it meant for Riona. Her physical and mental responses and understanding of her own needs was so well written. I think I related to it in a way that I haven't seen other authors write - a sense of madness but in a good way. This one also gets more clearly into kink, and explores the idea of what control really means. You don't think Raylan has it in him, but oh baby, he does.

The other theme in this book is that all families have darkness; while there are definitely different severities, it's a reminder that everyone has experienced fear, shame, and violence. Just because the Boones aren't mafia doesn't mean they don't have their own secrets and tragedies. It's almost like reading two interconnecting books the way that we get to see such distinct ways of living, and yet it all feels completely cohesive. This is very different than the other BB books, and yet definitely feels like a part of the whole.
Also, as a Nero stan, we get to see more of him from an outsider perspective (both Ree's and Raylan's) and it just filled me with glee.

Broken Vow pulls your heart in a lot of different directions, shows powerful, beautiful change on the page, and is a strong reminder that we can choose what we want despite our fear. Loved it, and already looking forward to Heavy Crown...but also sad that I will be leaving this world. If you enjoyed the other books in the series, this will be no different. If we you want to see a strong woman realize vulnerability is not weakness, this is absolutely the book for you.
The Narrators did an outstanding job telling this story and bringing the characters to life.

Worth the credit

Is this the best book out of the series-no, predictable in most parts yes, but I love the characters personally and the story line was really good!

This is Riona Griffin & Raylan’s story

Riona is a lawyer and the most buttoned up of the Griffin family. After someone tries to kill her while she’s swimming in the pool on her apartment complex one evening, she calls Dante Gallo for help. Dante has his hands full so he enlists his friend Raylan, also known as Longshot, from their time in military service to be her bodyguard. Riona is irritated by him at first until she’s attacked again and her apartment is torched. Raylan and Riona end up leaving Chicago to go to his family’s ranch in Tennessee as it would be more difficult for her assailant to find her. Riona loosens up under the hospitality of his family and with Raylan’s appreciation of her intelligence and strong will. Raylan takes care of her with gentle dominance so she can let her feelings and her guard down with him.

Another great story!💜

I love how Sophie Lark creates unique storylines for each of her characters while keeping in line with the mafia theme. Some stories venture further out such as this one but always circle back to the families in Chicago.
This story has romance, humor and hot sex as well as angsty moments. I love how each character is able to find their HEA without losing themselves. The banter is always fun and add in a sexy ex-military sniper bodyguard rancher… it doesn’t get much better than that.
The narration was absolutely wonderful.
This is book 5 with an HEA and can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book/series!

Riona and Raylan made me smile!

This is a great story! I loved meeting Raylan and Riona in the last book. In this one he REALLY took over! This guy is alpha all way! Riona is a spitfire who happens to be a lawyer. She is usually the boss in all things but a stalker changes a lot and she is out out of her comfort zone.

I LOVED the secondary characters we meet in here! Such a wonderful family! I loved Riona’s reactions to them. Then there is Dante and Cal who make appearances in here…so good!

Overall I enjoyed this one immensely! I didn’t expect it but it lives up to the hype! I did listen to this on audio. Both narrators did a nice job!

Male narrator is amazing!

I could listen to the male narrator read anything…. grocery list, class schedule, the obituary. 😉 So sexy and southern?

Another Great Addition to the Series!

This is the fifth book in the Brutal Birthright Series, a Dark Bodyguard Mafia Romance. This is a series of interconnected standalones romance. I love this Series! Raylan and Riona’s story is entertaining, suspenseful, and action packed! Riona is a wonderful character, strong, smart, and capable. Raylan is a handsome bodyguard and cowboy, caring and protective. The storyline is intricate, and captivating, filled with danger, mystery, secrets, and intrigue. I loved to see the characters from the first books. Wen Ross and P.J. Morgan did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed it. If you like mafia romance, this series is for you! Looking forward to listen to Heavy Crown, the next book in the series. #PinkFlamingoProductions #ALC #AudiobookObsession

Raylan was Great!

Another great addition to the series. Raylan deserves a medal for dealing with Riona. Riona becomes a slightly warmer person instead of the cold fish she was before. All this because of Raylan. After a death threat where they almost succeeded, Raylan is her 24/7 bodyguard and he takes her to his family home until the killer is caught. Raylan appears that he is not phased by her attitude. I was hoping for a better ending though. There is a happy for now but it felt rather abrupt. What happens to them next? Wen Ross was great and P.J. Morgan came off like a cold, all business, annoying woman, which was perfect. Initially, Riona was not likeable but eventually she got a little better.
