About this listen

Two people discover the healing power of love in this Coulter Family romance from New York Times best-selling author Catherine Anderson.

Carly Adams feels as if she's been given a new lease on life. Born with a rare eye disease, she was blind until a recent operation restored her sight. Now, she's eager to experience everything the world has to offer - including the sweet talk of a handsome cowboy who rouses her desire....

Hank Coulter has no plans to settle down, until he discovers that Carly Adams is carrying his child - a pregnancy that threatens her eyesight. Obsessed with making things right, he bullies the blue-eyed beauty into marrying him. With her radiant smile and remarkable goodness, Carly is exactly the kind of wife he'd always imagined by his side. But if Hank wants their practical arrangement to become permanent, he's going to have to convince Carly that one moment of risk can bring about a lifetime of joy....

Great book!

Great book, didn’t love the narration though. Some of her voices were good and some sounded forced.

Great story.

Had many plots but the ending was special when listening to all of this and brought Carly home to a well designed home for a blind person. Glad their baby was a boy named Hank Jr.

Hank and Carly

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

'Blue Skies' by Catherine Anderson, book 4 in the Kendrick/Coulter/Harrigan series. Audible Premium Plus borrow. Three POV (Hank's, Carly's, and Art's). It's listed as 12 hours 32 minutes. I listened for 5 hours 1 minute at speed 2.50. Narrator Suzanne Toren's infantilized Mickey Mouse-esque voice for the h is grating. Other than that, she's easy to understand and has a nice pace. Content warnings: blind to sighted to blind h; drunken one-night stand with a v¡rg¡n plus no birth control equals unplanned pregnancy; horse accident leaving an 18 year old a paraplegic; h mom died of ovarian cancer; h almost drown twice; and H grew up a bit resentful of being a rancher's son. **I did have to suspend reality when the h started having morning sickness six days after her encounter with the H, and then again when the optician didn't warn her that pregnancy could negatively impact her healing and ultimately her sight.**

Date: June, July
Location: Crystal Falls, OR; Arizona

Hank Coulter (31, 32 in December) is a dark-haired, blue-eyed playboy cattle rancher who breeds and trains quarter horses. Hank lives with Jake, his oldest brother/business partner, and Molly, Jake's wife, on their ranch, the Lazy J. Jake and Hank have three other brothers and a sister. Carly Jane Adams (27, 28 in August; aka Charlie/Carls) is a blue-eyed curly haired blonde v¡rg¡n grad student who was born blind (congenital cataracts/Lattice dystrophy). She is an only child whose mother died of ovarian cancer and whose father is living in a retirement village in Arizona. Carly was formerly a teacher for the blind and is studying for her master's in special education. Through surgery, her sight was restored a week before she and her best friend/roommate, Bess, visited Chaps, a local bar. She's been independent her entire life, and a whole new world has been opened to her now that she can see. She meets Hank in the bar, they dance, drink, and have a great time together. Hank invites her to leave with him, and when she hesitates, they end up in his truck where things heat up quickly. Hank passes out, and the now deflowered Carly leaves with Bess. Six days later, Carly is having eye problems, has a positive pregnancy test, and a best friend hounding her to tell Hank he's going to be a father. Once he's aware of the situation, Hank manipulates Carly into marrying him with the help of Bess, and even though everything worked out, I struggle to forgive either of them for betraying Carly. In the epilogue, Carly is once again blind and has safely delivered their son, Hank Jr. JP

Other characters: ●Hank's family: McBride (Mary's father/Hank's grandfather); Harv and Mary (Hank's parents went bankrupt and lost the Lazy J paying Bethany's medical bills); Jake (Hank's oldest brother/business partner; has a copper haired vegetarian investment consultant/stockbroker wife: Molly; son: Garrett); Zeke (Hank's older brother by almost 2 years; single; new home; loves to cook; gardener; looks just like Hank; eavesdropper; excellent friend to Carly); Isaiah (quiet and reserved) and Tucker (Hank's identical twin brothers; vet clinic partners); Bethany (the youngest Coulter sibling; paraplegic at 18; opened a riding academy for disabled kids; husband Ryan Kendrick; son named Sly after Slyvester; she's pregnant for #2); Rafe Kendrick (Ryan's brother; Helen's son-in-law; wife: Maggie; 2 kids); Slyvester Glass (aka Sly; the Rocking K foreman; wife: Helen); Rodney Wells (Molly's ex-husband). ●Chaps (local bar; bartender: Gary). ●Hank's friends: Eric Stone (brown eyes), Peter Witherspoon, and Joe Michaels. ●Ranch hands: Shorty (sandy hair; dog named Bart); Levi (wiry; green eyes; Southern; truck named Mandy); and Dano (redhead; freckled). ●Rip Tanner (construction company owner). ●Bess (27; Carly's lifelong friend/roommate; dark hair; business management major); Norma Greyson (Bess's mom); Art Adams (73; Carly's dad; lives in a retirement facility; not in the best health); ? (Carly's mom; 43 when she got pregnant for Carly; only child; crocheted; died 2 years ago of ovarian cancer); ? (Carly's dad's brother; died in Vietnam); ? (Carly's grandparents; deceased); Dr Merrick (Carly's ophthalmologist; corneal specialist); Dr ? (Carly's local doctor); Cricket (27; Carly and Bess's lifelong friend; archeologist); Mrs Kirkpatrick (Carly, Bess, and Cricket's childhood neighbor); Michael (Carly's 1st boyfriend; broke Carly's heart).

Carly

I only lasted a few chapters of listening to Carly’s irritating voice. First time I’ve returned a book unfinished because of the audio presentation. I usually love Catherine Anderson’s books.
