About this listen
A New York Times best-selling author looks for the meaning of a good life by seeking advice from the very young and the very old.
When his first book tour ended, Brad Montague missed hearing other people's stories so much that he launched what he dubbed a Listening Tour. First visiting elementary schools and later also nursing homes and retirement communities, he hoped to glean new wisdom as to how he might become a better grownup. Now, in this playful and buoyant book, he shares those insights with rest of us - timeless, often surprising lessons that bypass the head we're always stuck in, and go straight to the heart we sometimes forget.
Each of the book's three sections begins with the story of "The Incredible Floating Girl." Brad weaves this story together with lessons of success, fear, regret, gratitude, love, happiness, and dreams to reveal the true reason we are here: to fly, and to help others fly.
Becoming Better Grownups shares the purpose and meaning we can all discover merely by listening, and reveals that - in a world that seems increasingly childish - the secret to joy is in fact to become more childlike.
Includes a PDF of the author's illustrations.

Joe De Sena has spent his life running toward challenge and discomfort. Why? Because how we react to challenging situations defines us and our families. The only tools we have as humans to survive the many peaks and valleys of a full life are preparedness, health, leadership, and most importantly, resilience. Why do so many parents struggle to finish things we start, delay gratification, and protect our health - and why do our kids continue to struggle in every facet of life? Because we haven’t showed them a path to resilience, and we haven’t fought for it ourselves.

Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

At a time when we are all more rudderless than ever, we look for the very best teachers and mentors to guide us. In Fully Alive, an unusual and gripping memoir, Timothy Shriver shows how his teachers have been the world's most forgotten minority: people with intellectual disabilities. In these pages we meet the individuals who helped him come of age and find a deeper and more meaningful way to see the world.

Story
What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves - and the world - for the better.

There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Excellent research with personal reflection
Excellent research with personal reflection. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. At times the story dragged on a bit. I'm not sure if this was because he was overstating the obvious or because we both have a similar mindset. Regardless of this, there were multiple statements that, for me, were thought provoking and are inspiring and made the book totally worth listening to. Thank you Brad Montague.

Everything I didn't know I needed
I stumbled upon this book by accident. I had no idea it existed, but I was intrigued finding out it was written by the man who created my favorite Kid President videos. I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety lately, and frustration that my life isn't everything I thought it would be at 34. I've thought a lot about how much more carefree and FUN I used to be and I've been missing that part of who I had been. Right when I needed it most, I found this. This book served as a gentle reminder of the importance of maintaining a childlike essence, curiosity, desire to be good... and SO much more. This book is great for people who are around kids often, or not at all. It's great for people who are well established in their lives, or not at all. This is a book I will share with others any chance at can, and I will reread over and over. There are SO many little passages that I have saved and will reference to remind myself of the way life should be. THANK YOU for helping me to become a better grown up 💖
