About this listen

A smart, funny, and essential survival guide that you didn't know you needed. But you do.

As any current or former 20-something knows, adult life can get a bit weird because no one tells you what to expect. Many of us spend a decade or more figuring out how the world works, hoping that by age 30 our friends are too old to remember what happened.

Unfortunately, Andy Boyle does not have it all figured out. But the funny and useful advice and observations in this engaging audiobook will help any newly minted adult get through the hard parts faster, guaranteed. (Note: not literally guaranteed.)

Topics include:

  • Empathy, or why Nickelback fans are the best
  • Making dates suck less
  • What would Tom Hanks do?
  • How not to be an asshole
  • Should you get back together with your ex? (No)
  • Resume dos and OMG DO NOTs

Mostly good

Most of the advice in this book was good. I disagree with some of it, but it's worth a listen.

Vulgarity

What disappointed you about Adulthood for Beginners?

This is a book aimed at millenials. It is at best, rather shallow. We had to tune it out early on because, even for me, it was simply too, too crass.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not this dirty little boy.

Would you be willing to try another one of Andy Boyle’s performances?

Oh hell no.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

As a society, if this is the meat of our literary world, we are in serious trouble. This is the stream of consciousness rant of a sophomoric child. If I were thirty-five, maybe I would laugh. When this boy is pushing sixty he will will probably have regrets for putting this out there.

Any additional comments?

Just... ewwww.

Pandering

Author: don't say mean things things to people, if you have to justify what you said by saying "just telling it how it is", you are an a-hole.

1 minute later.

Author: everyone works hard except rich, straight, white males.

I am not rich or white, but that statement is made by someone out of touch, and it is pretty darn hypocritical. I won't be taking advice from someone who doesn't even follow their own.
