Publisher's summary

From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships.

"Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world. When confronted with critical decisions about dating, sex, work, even getting dressed in the morning, Iliza argues that women will by nature consider every repercussion of every option before making a move toward what they really want. And that kind of holistic thinking can actually give women an advantage in what is still a male world.

In Iliza's own words: "Understanding Girl Logic is a way of embracing both our aspirations and our contradictions. GL is the desire to be strong and vulnerable. It's wanting to be curvy, but rail thin at the same time. It's striving to kick ass in a man's world while still being loved by the women around you.

"This book is also for me, because apparently expounding on a stage for two hours a night wasn't enough. (Trust me, if I could start a cult I would, but I hate the idea of deliberately dying in a group.)"

Men’s Field Guide

I may be the 1 male listener Iliza referenced. Married 24.92 years and father of 2 teenage boys - no man should walk away from understanding “Girl Logic”. I fantasize that someday, my sons’ mother-in-laws will thank me and my wife for raising good men. I teach (preach)-Respect people, understand that being born into privilege or poverty in no way reflects character, give of yourself, say “please-thank you”, hold doors, express feelings, don’t finance toys or vacations, understand that sex IS NOT intimacy and hard work is always rewarded. Dare I say Ms. Shlesinger and I are on the same page...? (The ellipse is to prove I listened to the WHOLE BOOK!) 4’s across the board because it felt like a first attempt, but I liked the message and the effort.
A confession, I returned Ms. Cumming’s book - I like her much of her stand-up and her honesty when she’s on Stern, but could never settle into the groove of her writing.

Overall a good listen

Overall, this book is good. Some funny parts and some parts that made you think. I enjoyed it mostly. What I didn’t care for was the constant voices that she did during the narration. It’s like every third sentence she wouid change to a snarky or stupid or silly voice. It started to get really annoying after a while. Other than that, I enjoyed the book and would recommend.

Better to Listen than to Read

I've had my ups and downs with Iliza's comedy but I have to admit I love her book and I love her reading her book. This book should hit home for any female, with the constant bombardment of thoughts that we constantly have to the way we respond because of those thoughts. Definitely worth the listen.

The Dude abides

As a dude listen to this book .., it’s quite intriguing. Love the inside that or put forth in the way that she conveys her ideas. Although I’m still confused as ever of how women think I do have a little bit more insight on their logic. thank you GL...well done!

Inspiring, funny, touching, delightful!

As a Shlesinger fan/newbie stand-up comic/fellow vagina owner, the observations, wisdom and humorous allegories in this book are a total treasure. Hearing comics narrate their own works is like a magical, private journey into their marvelous brain... and Girl Logic is no exception. This book is masterfully composed, entertaining, touching, and beautifully personal. Hearing Iliza narrate it makes it beyond special.
