About this listen

For more than 30 years, Pern has conjured visions of brave men and women mounted upon the backs of dragons. As anyone knows who has been touched by the storytelling magic of Anne McCaffrey, to hear of the exotic world of Pern is to inhabit it - and to experience its extraordinary dragons is to soar aloft with them and share their dazzling adventures.

Now, A Gift of Dragons brings together three beloved stories and a thrilling new tale of Pern in a single volume. In "The Smallest Dragonboy," Keevan is the youngest dragonrider candidate, determined to impress a dragon when the next clutch of eggs hatches. But what transpires will surprise everyone - Keevan most of all. In "The Girl Who Heard Dragons," a young girl's rare ability to communicate with dragons puts her family in danger and will bring her face to face with her greatest fears - and with her most secret desire. The "Runner of Pern" is a girl named Tenna, who follows family tradition by delivering messages - and who will find her destiny on the mossy traces that runners have used for centuries under the dragon-filled sky. And finally, a very special gift: an exciting new Pern adventure, published here for the first time, fresh from the imagination of Anne McCaffrey.

wonderful stories

I love Anne style of writing and I love Pern, so everything which is both, probably will be in my favourites list.
Those youngsters stories didn't disappointed me.
I'm recommending to every Pern admirer.

satisfaction

These little "gifts" are far more satisfying than the last couple of full length Pern novels. In each of these short stories, Ms McCaffrey concentrates on a very compressed timeline, and a small number of characters. The results: fully developed characters and lots of detail about their lives on Pern. "A Gift of Dragons" rates right up there with "Nerilka's Story" and "Moreta" as my favorite books in the Pern series.

A taste of Pern.

I have always enjoyed the Pern stories. The authors concept of genetically engineered, intelligent and telepathic dragons who ,with the help of their riders fight to protect thier planet from a devastating spaceborn lifeform fascinates me.Tthe entire series of books weaves a tale of a society and its devolution from high tech to agrarian life as the planets residents struggle to survive in the face of a terrible menace. The audible adaptations add a new and enjoyable dimension.

3 wonderful visits to Pern

I thank Anne McCaffrey each and every time I visti Pern to live another life through her wonderful characters. In a Gift of Dragons, she offers up 3 more fascinating tales to add even more depth to the history of the world she has created on Pern. Lee Meriwether is a welcome change in narrator, making the people of Pern more alive than ever. Thank you for this break in everyday mundane life and making my time in the car with an audio book something to look forward too.

Really glad I got this

I've never read any of these stories, so enjoyed them greatly. And the narrator is wonderful! I just really could do without the music lead in and close out to each story, as it is loud enough to cover the narrator mostly. Not completely, but it's irritating. Other than that, I'm very happy with this, and will definitely be listening to it again in the future.

Love Pern, but...

What did you love best about A Gift of Dragons?

I really like the Runner of Pern and The Girl Who Heard Dragons, but Ever the Twain was a little disappointing. It seemed anitclimatic and obvious.

Still LOVE Pern and Anne McCaffery
