Publisher's summary

Sequel to The Lightning-Struck Heart

Once upon a time, the wizard’s apprentice, Sam of Wilds, got his happily ever after in the arms of his cornerstone, Knight Commander Ryan Foxheart. A year has passed, and while Sam’s been captured five or six more times since then, things are pretty great. His parents are happy, Gary and Tiggy still eat sass for breakfast, Randall is somehow alive despite being older than the gods, the King rules with a gentle hand, Kevin the dragon is as gross as ever, Morgan sighs a lot, Ryan continues to be dashing and immaculate, and Sam is close to convincing Prince Justin they will be best friends forever. Life is good.

Until it’s not.

Because Vadoma, the leader of the gypsy clan and Sam’s grandmother, has come to the City of Lockes with a dire prophecy written in the stars: a man of shadows is rising and will consume the world unless Sam faces his destiny and gathers the five dragons of Verania at his side.

And she brings along her second-in-command, a man named Ruv. Ruv, who Vadoma says is Sam’s true cornerstone.

This book is hilarious!

Omg! Randal has got to be my favorite character in this book! Something horribly vulgar and hilarious follows “ Back in my Day......” I love all the characters, the story is great, and so is the world they live in. Another great book by TJ Klune :)

Love the audio!

The story is magnificent, but the performance raises it to whole new level of awesome. I would have felt kind of cheated if had only read this book. it is lots of fun and very well written, but the audible version makes it so much more.
Though it is a cliff-hanger it does it in a good way. and even though the story is long, everything in there is necessary.
It I the opposite of a dystopia, full of fun and love and friendship.
I recoment this fantastic work of fantasy for any listeners out there.

Dynamic duo

This author and this narrator are a dynamic duo. Michael gives soul to the characters that TJ has created and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a series more than I enjoy this one. To call it brilliant would be an understatement.

Really good continuation to the series :)

4-4.5 stars

This was a really enjoyable followup to The Lightning-Struck Heart. I really enjoyed it and still love the characters but I will admit that the story didn't suck me in as much as the first book did, hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

This story takes place a year after the ending of The Lightning-Struck Heart. Sam and Ryan are happy and things have been going well. So of course, this is when things have to go a bit wonky. Sam's grandmother shows up at the castle, bringing with her news of Sam's "destiny". Sam is happy with his life and doesn't want a "destiny" and actively tries to hide away from it. At least until he realizes that hiding from it wont make it go away. There's also the issue with Sam's Grandmother bringing another possible cornerstone for Sam but that doesn't cause as much drama as I'd feared.

This story is only a beginning of the story surrounding Sam's destiny and his efforts to save everyone from darkness. I know there are at least 2 more books in this series so I'm guessing this will be an ongoing issue for a while. The part that was covered in this book was a really good start and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress. While there was a decent amount of dark stuff you don't have to worry, Sam and friends always seem to squeeze in time to have some zany adventure or weird conversation to lighten things up (sometimes in the middle of the dark scenes). Overall, this was a really good continuation of the series and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the future books. I would recommend this book but as part of the series, I don't think this would work as a standalone. :)

* note - As with book #1, the narrator did an awesome job. It's really more of a performance than a narration and even has some sound effects thrown in.
