This story was great up until the final 4 or 5 chapters and I just felt let down by how it all unfolded.
This is just my opinion! I encourage you to listen and see for yourself

It’s decent, nothing special. I think the author has some pretty loyal fans who stick by her no matter what. The twist at the end kind of made the book worse (my opinion)

Unbiased Honest review
Reviewed: 09-29-22
I LOVE Alaina, and I bought this solely because I’m a fan of morbid/scream.
With that being said….this isn’t it.
I’ve been seeing people comment on how the location matters…it doesn’t. This books could’ve been written with them literally anywhere and it would’ve been the same.
The book isn’t long enough to develop any sort of connection to either the Butcher or Wren, and the other characters are so forgetful you kind of get lost on who is who.
The “twists” that occur aren’t anything special and honestly made me dislike the writing a bit more.
Everything has a CSI Miami vibe, where something arises and then magically Horatio Caine is there to spot/know exactly what happened.
One of the more disappointing things is this book is left open for a sequel. (Sigh). I wish she would focus on another attempt at a completely different story.
Another way to put this is it feels like you’re watching an episode of a TV crime show, except you just stepped into season 3 episode 10 and you don’t have any attachments to the characters or story.
If you’re a fan of Mystery/Thrillers you will clearly be able to tell this isn’t up to par.
It’s like a celebrity tequila…it’s not good, but will sell because a fan base was previously held and they will support no matter what.
Alaina did show some promise and maybe after a few books are under her belt she will show the talent more. This was a rookie author, and it shows.
Really wanted to like this more.

Story
To his customers and neighbors on 125th street, Ray Carney is an upstanding salesman of reasonably priced furniture, making a decent life for himself and his family. He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their second child, and if her parents on Striver's Row don't approve of him or their cramped apartment across from the subway tracks, it's still home. Few people know he descends from a line of uptown hoods and crooks, and that his façade of normalcy has more than a few cracks in it. Cracks that are getting bigger all the time.

Story
There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers. Which means someone is always lying. When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

Solid Thriller, Classic Feeney
Reviewed: 07-12-22
This is my second Feeney novel (Rock Paper Scissors was my first) and I’ll say that she definitely keeps the reader entertained…I read reviews before purchasing and seen some people talk about not being able to finish because of animal cruelty…I’ll say that it’s literally a tiny piece of the story and not really that bad at all. So don’t pay that any attention.
If you pay attention closely throughout, it won’t be that big of a surprise/twist ending. But still I highly recommend
