Story
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Just not very interesting, mainly fluff. I've enjoyed a lot of other books much more. I guess that's why it's free.

Story
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Story
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

OK, I'm old. I didn't know who Brandy was before a couple of years ago, I mainly listen to books now instead of music. I was looking for a book when I came across her title and it caught my interest. The summary sounded pretty good so I got it, having no idea how it would effect me. Her story is incredible, her experiences, determination, concern for and promotion of others, her sense of humor, and her incredible talents/skills both awed and inspired me. Brandy's narration sounds like she's sitting on the porch just telling you stories and singing you her heart. I love that she's included all songs and the accompaniment of guitar and piano. I've listened to it 3 times now, and love seeing her perform.

The story held my attention, and I applaud Dolly for taking on a different version of her accomplishments. I like many others very much enjoy her personality and musical talents. I'm glad it has a positive conclusion, but it won't be a book I feel compelled to listen to a second time. I would have liked to hear some actual musical performances during the narration, rather than just reading of the lyrics. Yes, I know there is a recorded album.

Since then Sy has practiced true immersion journalism, from New England aquarium tanks to the reefs of French Polynesia and the Gulf of Mexico, pursuing these wild, solitary shape-shifters.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I loved this story
Reviewed: 12-04-21
The story was both well written and well narrated . It didn't have too many details that irritate me for inaccuracy or just being too schmaltzy. I didn't find to many parts that were slow but neccessary to move from one point to get to another. So, I can't site anything significantly negative. What I loved were the characters , of course mainly Grace and Rocky and the bond they formed, their dialog and interaction, their care and understanding of each other. The creativity of the premise and the details of the problem and the eventual solution, and the creation of the life forms from the different planets. I loved the idea that alien beings met peacefully and embraced each other with their differences and commonalities, instead of the much more common portrayal of instant enemies. I was not surprised by the eventual outcome, and was happy about the details Weir included in the conclusion. I thought there was a well balanced combination of fun, emotion, tension-anticipation- suspense, and satisfaction. Even if you aren't a listener who normally likes space stories, I highly recommend this one.

I have listened to many WWII stories from the view point of Americans, British, French, and one German perspective. But, I had not heard any Italian reference experiences before listening to this story. There were several similar situations with brave heroes fighting to save others, Jews in particular, from the atrocities of the AXIS powers. But, the book brought it's focus to Italy's unique version and the weaknesses of Mussolini that created devastation to her population. The fact that the basis for the narration is taken from the lives of actual participants gives the listener a more valid realization. As a story I never felt any parts were slow or superfluous. The main character and his relationship with friends, family and enemies were both believable and for the most part admirable. The narrator is excellent. At my suggestion this book will be my book club's next read. I also recommended it to anyone who appreciates strong characters in search of the right path during incredible adversity.

A chain of events that will change the lives of each and every character will leave some of them wiser, some of them deader, and some of them definitely looking for a new line of work. With a wicked wit, razor-sharp observations, rich characters, and a plot with more twists than the Inland Waterway, Dave Barry makes his debut a complete and utter triumph.
