Because I come from a religiously conservative background, I found her story to be very relatable and interesting. It helped me to hear her personal story and the changes she made in her life to come into her own person. I’m glad she shared her story.

There’s nothing wrong with the performance of this book, but the story is very much lacking.

This rarely happens to me, but I actually woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this book, and could not go back to sleep wondering what would happen next. So well performed and so well told. I did takeoff one star because it does have some rather gross medical stuff in it that I could’ve done without. But that’s just personal opinion.

The combination of Anne Patchett’s storytelling and Meryl Streep’s narration makes this an absolutely perfect pick. Loved it and did not want it to end.

I was looking for a lighter, fun and funny read for summer, and this truly hit the right notes with me. Dave Barry has a unique eye for Florida culture and does an excellent job of turning out a terrific tale with lots of twists. Loved it.

This book just is not like her others. There’s really just not enough story to it, and the characters are not very well drawn. It just never felt real to me. Or maybe it was too real and the story felt too ordinary

This is a deeply felt, well told story that unwinds slowly, but not too slowly. I loved the descriptions of the places in which the narrative occurs, and greatly loved the characters. Very well done.

This was just what I needed in 2020, and it comes with a wonderful essay read by the author about reading for joy at the conclusion. It was just a delightful read full of amazing characters and set an a beautiful city, Galveston, Texas.

I listened to this book before, during and after a trip to Colombia. I was not surprised to hear the author’s note at the conclusion that it was based on her own life, as it felt authentic. It gives you such a clear portrait of life in Colombia 20 years ago you’ll feel like you’re there.

I have listened to several of this author’s books and this was my least favorite. I had trouble with the believability of the storyline and I thought the ending was just a little bit too tidy. However, I loved the performances. Both narrators are superb and it really carried me through.
