Great storytelling
Reviewed: 12-21-24
The story is cumbersome in the beginning as it is meant to be a backstory for one of the characters, but once through that it is very good.
As many before me have said, the narrator was very poorly chosen for this one. Why does everyone have a very fake Indian accent? Why does almost every male have to growl instead of speaking? Not to mention that the names are pronounced completely differently than in the first three books.

Story
Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener's magnificent saga of the West is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America's past, the story of Colorado - the Centennial State - is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; and the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe.

Land and its people
Reviewed: 09-25-24
Another amazing book by Michener, but not as good as Hawaii.
My major gripes are - limited psychological space he allows to Native American tribes, and off the cuff remark on how Indians kept slaves without explanation of what kind of slavery it was. Key point being to at slaves were always absorbed into the tribe as one of the tribe or given an opportunity to return to their own tribe, eventually.
The rest of the story has much love for all the various inhabitants of the West, and this is the major value of his work. He truly tries to understand people.
It’s also a great study in ecology and climate change. Very much worth listening to - and the narrator gets a lot better once you get through the first hour or so.

All that bestselling author Eleanor Dash wants is to get through her book tour in Italy and kill off her main character, Connor Smith, in the next in her Vacation Mysteries series—is that too much to ask? Clearly, because when an attempt is made on the real Connor’s life—the handsome but infuriating con man she got mixed up with ten years ago and now can't get out of her life—Eleanor’s enlisted to help solve the case.

Atrocious

This is not literature. Seems like and AI wrote it; and the instructions were to use an exotic location, stereotypes, and add a bit of suspense and romance. The result should have been flushed down the toilet.
What makes me mad is that Audible won’t accept my return.

Story
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

I couldn’t put this book down. It completely captivated me by the empathy and insights that it was offering. I learned so much. And I want to give this book to everyone who has children, who cares for children, who teaches children. I want to give this book to every therapist and every doctor and every insurance company. Most of all I hope that we can get the societal change that is needed to stop perpetuating trauma.

The world’s most trusted guide for leaders in transition. Transitions are a critical time for leaders. In fact, most agree that moving into a new role is the biggest challenge a manager will face. While transitions offer a chance to start fresh and make needed changes in an organization, they also place leaders in a position of acute vulnerability. Missteps made during the crucial first three months in a new role can jeopardize or even derail your success.

Great resource
Reviewed: 07-19-23
This book is a great resource for anyone in a job, transition, for coaches, and change managers. Concepts are explained very clearly, and I was able to follow even without a paper copy. However, I would suggest getting a paper copy if you want to reference certain passages or tools, as you should during your transition. My only complaint about this book is that the narrator sounds like a stuck up boomer, not really something that younger generations relates to. Gratefully, material is very much applicable to present day so you can ignore the tone of his voice for the value of the material.

From the towering heights of Olympos Mons on Mars, the mighty Zeus and his immortal family of gods, goddesses, and demigods look down upon a momentous battle, observing - and often influencing - the legendary exploits of Paris, Achilles, Hector, Odysseus, and the clashing armies of Greece and Troy. Thomas Hockenberry, former 21st-century professor and Iliad scholar, watches as well. It is Hockenberry's duty to observe and report on the Trojan War's progress to the so-called deities who saw fit to return him from the dead.
