Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Characters are hard to destinguish from each other
Reviewed: 12-03-24
All the characters met thus far are no bs millitary types. The only difference between the ai and the man is that he makes more jokes and the ai sometimes gives him info that he doesn't need. Thats literally it. Also the voice actor is really bad at tailoring the voice to the characters.
Its saving grace is that its sort of interresting, but it lacks in many departments.

Story
I never thought I’d find love. I spent all of high school watching others pair up, my little gay heart slowly withering in despair… until the fateful summer night that I met Tim. His meaty muscles and smoldering silver eyes already haunt my dreams. And I know for a fact that he’s lonely like me. I’ve been taking care of Tim ever since he got into an accident that was technically my fault, but the healing he needs goes so much deeper than that. I need him too. With any luck, I’ll end senior year with the man of my dreams at my side.

Im sorry to say, but i've hardly ever met a less appealing lover for the main character. Tim is garbage as a lover, as a protector and as a citizen.
That said, if the storyteller is fully aware of these facts. The writing itself is very good, even if i get so annoyed i want to punch Tim every second paragraph.

Believability is the issue, but the narrator is amazing
Reviewed: 10-22-24
The Narrator is capable of immitating any voice be it Andrew, Jamie or any female character. Further they don't sound the same, they are all destrinctive and their emotions are really well imitated. Therefore the narrator is the saving grace of this tale.
When it comes to the story itself, its worth listening to, but its not believable, not in the slightest. Which is a huge shame, seeing as the characters are well written and the last story was both believavle and quite amazing.
This time without spoiling the story, you can expect incredibly illogical behavior by the characters which sometimes feels forced to create drama and sometimes feels like its a poor attempt by the author to set themselves in the shoes of the character. The thing is, if you've just had your hand mauled by an alligator and you're in incredible pain and your hand is becoming septic. Add to this that you suffered this injury to save a small child. You're definitely not in the mood for changing his peed through pants with your intact hand days later. If the child was being like "No i want you to do it" odds are I'd have evil thoughts about throwing the child over the side of the truck or that I'd at least say no. I get that the character is supposed to be kind, but noone, and i repeat noone would do that when the child has said neither thank you, nor done nothing but complain, put everyone in danger and peed his pants for the intire story.
Later the child complains about his toy "bobo" which got blood smeared over it from the inhured guy whom tried to save him. Firstof all, why did anyone care about the toy while being in a life treatening situation with someone you loved bleeding out and screaming in pain? Why did they later think it was sweet that the child seemed to care more about bobo than the man whom saved him, even resorting to put gauze on the bloodied spot on this toy?! It makes zero senseand it annoys the ever living stuffing out of me. And it's these sorts of things that remind me the book is a book, not a real thing and the characters i love and know are just words on a page.
That said, while moments like these are common, the mistakes the characters

McGill grows a set of morals and befriends aliens
Reviewed: 07-10-24
A welcome shift in McGill's personality and the relatability of some of the aliens. The Author has manged to keep the traits that keeps aliens alien and interesting while opening up for greater interraction. McGills relations to Raaj for example has become much more fun and interesting. Raaj doesn't seem completely without morals and brains now. Further characters in the book seem less stupid now making for a moreinteresting read. I also liked that people whom know McGill has started to tell him to "shut up" when he is bulshitting too much. Its really welcome
The story has become more intriguing and interesting centering not just around the campaigns but also about the side storyline that moves the main plot forward. Thats also very welcome. Im still missing one or more openly gay characters in the story. I'd better enjoy the book if it felt like i could be a real character in the story. Tribune Wincelaid comes to mind. Yes he is despicable most of the time, but he fits my vision of a throughly closeted gay man whom doesn't want to be snooped upon. It could make for pretty funny interration if mcgi found out in a fun way with wincelaid wanting to keep it secret

No gay characters after soo many books
Reviewed: 06-19-24
I love your soundbooks, but im starting to get slightly annoyed that none of the recruits, none of the officers, none of the people, none of the aliens etc. Have male-male or female-female relationships or affairs.
Its like they simply dont exist in this universe. Im guessing this is either a subconscious choice by the author or a conscious one based on the fanbase of presumably southern American youths.
What im saying is. If you made even a single guy gay or bi. I'd be more interrested in the story. It would mean that people like me exist in the universe i am so enamoured with. Make cooper gay, or make wincelaid bi, those two are practically destined to have that preference.
It could be funny too. Imagine wincelaid trying to hide this fact from the rest of varus. McGill not giving a single fuck as long as wincelaid doesn't bake on him.

Minalan the Spellmonger has come a long way since he woke up to a goblin invasion almost a decade ago. Since then, he has built cities and mighty armies, invented new enchantments, and pioneered entirely new fields of magic. Now that the Witch Queen of Darkfaller has taken over one of the most powerful castles in the center of the kingdom, he has to marshal all his resources—political, military, and arcane—to try to drive her from the strategic and symbolically important stronghold.

Terry Mancour keeps stringing us along and letting antagonists survive
Reviewed: 05-28-24
Dear Terry Mancour. Your books are masterpieces and this ones story and creative writing was amazing. Im looking forward to the next book. But im vexed that once again, you elect to allow major enemies to survive while creating new ones or reviving old ones. I've waited for 14 books now for cheruel to be eliminated. Only to watch him be reinstated by Minalen. Whom acts with incredible stupidity disguised as good judgement when electing not to kill both Korbal and Mycin Armana when he clearly had the chance.
Its like the antagoists hesitation cliché. Justifying it with "if we dont kill our enemies we dont create new ones" is simply a bad disguise for mediocre writing. Of course you destroy your enemies, if you dont, you allow them to regroup and recover only for them to strike at you again.
That is why the war in ukraine is how bad it is. Its because it requires the death of Putin and a rebalancing of power to be successfully and permanently resolved.
That is true also for Korbal and his minions. To me Minalen seems either confused, weak or plot puppeteered in this book.
To propel the plot forward you have to kill your darlings. Getting rid of cheruel, the enshadowed or Korbal permanently. This book seemed to do just that so that we could focus on more interesting and important threats to Caledor. But nope...
At this point i feel like im being strung along in order to extend the book series. If you're seeking to keep the series alive, you should introduce new and more interesting enemies while gettinf rid of the less interesting and powerfull ones. Seeing minale flee from a draon in book 15 is getting old. For gods sakes he killed a dragon early in the series. Multiple since then. Why is it so hard now when he is the most powerful wizard ever?

Good characters, good story, but fails to wrap it up well
Reviewed: 05-08-24
The ending felt forced, we didn't get to understand deeper who the patrons are, what the purpose of the juckster position is or anything of the sort.
The story ended with the main character being a tier two guy. Also whomever wins the juckster position was suposed to become a patron, but nope the story ends without anything of the sort happening.
Major spoiler warnings!
The ending does not explain well why Nacho is done saving humanity. Its just like "Oh well, im tired of it, so yeah no more of that stuff"
Its a real shame as i really liked Ruben, Nacho and Bree and the archer teen. I also liked the universe and the battles. The story had its ups and downs. Mainly the issues were the lenghthy character sheet summaries and the repetition of information we already know. You didn't have to tell us every single thing about their chracter every single time. Just tell us their level, health, mana and attribute points. Not the whole slew of descriptions of their skills. It gets old really fast

It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face. Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

Reviewed: 07-11-22
progression in this book has floored, it cannot progress in any meaningful manner because it has set too high expectations for itself. It would have been smart to instead focus on new characters, friends and storytelling. making some epic adventure that Jason goes through. This book unfortunately just has one generic dungeon after the other, endless reading of stats and upgrades. Its Not very interesting anymore and my mind keeps loosing focus.
The first and second books were masterpieces, because they focused on what really matters; the relationships between the characters.
The upgrade notices is like the quest notices in video games, people don't really care unless it advances their story. Killed monster 10 gold spirit coins, (who cares?! we don't keep a count anymore, I would if every coin mattered and Jason didn't have them by the thousands). it's like that quest notice in skyrim; quest completed, 100 gold received.
The player really only cares about the experience gained from the quest or what they can buy with the gold. the gold is just that, gold, and it has no intrinsic value.
To salvage the plot and story please focus on the relationships between the characters, make fever detours and mini bosses. Get more creative and descriptive with the fights and cut down the number of things Jason needs to do to save the world, make them fewer and more difficult/epic. No one would want to watch the lord of the rings if Frodo had to collect all rings of power ever made and get them to Mordor. That would have been a grind. 😊

feel good story and it has taught me a few things
Reviewed: 06-19-22
I'd love more describtive sex, cause I'm a pervert , which is why this was the only deal breaker for me 😂
look at captive prince for example. it has all the sex all the feeling all the epic fantasy and battles, emotional rollercoasters all in one package.
So good books with a main theme of emotional learning, trust and self control can also have more sex without it taking away from the main theme 😊🙏
That said, this book actually taught me a few things. I had a mental breakdown recently in front of my boyfriend, where I told him I didn't want to become a vegetable and not be able to function in society. I just really wanted him to assure me he'd allways be there for me. He didn't, but I knew he would no matter what happens, and this book has taught me that talking about insecurities with your significant other is the most important thing you can do to stabilize a relationship and have trust between one another.
Living in a relationship I now realize should be an experience of getting what each of us want without having to make compromises on our own needs. I need more sex than my boyfriend does, we will find a way to fix this, because we can, but that will never make me leave him, only if he doesn't want to try to remide this discrepancy.
There are things he does for me, that he doesn't enjoy, hence forth I wount ask him to, or want him to do those things for me, and neither will I do the things I don't enjoy doing for his sake. We will simply have to find the golden spots that we both enjoy and spend our time together in those moments. While also exploring the things we haven't done yet and therefore can't say wether we enjoy or not. 😊
Lastly I really liked Sidney, cause he reminds me a lot of myself. I have been socially awkward for most of my teenager and early adult years. It gets worse if I don't go out or see people, but I often avoid seeing people because I feel like my awkwardness makes them feel uncomfortable. It's only with my boyfriend that I can be truly myself. I have other people too, but i can't seem to trust them enough even to I don't have any reason not to. I need to do something here, I don't know what's but the book also made that clear 😁 I'll just try getting out of my comfort zone more often, without getting myself in danger.
keep up the good work 🙏😊👍

For 5 stars stop being gross with the meat 😂
Reviewed: 04-26-22
Somehow I literally think the author eats meat with meat and 🍖🥓. The main character in the book literally hates soup with vegetables, turnips, potatoes and everything else. He just eats meat all the time; dried, salted, roasted, smoked but without anything else. Other people he meets eats meat too allthough a bit less so. It's starting to get gross, and I'm not even vegetarian or anything, but I'm still put off by the fact that it contributes so much to the destruction of our planet and authors don't take this into account when writing 😔
That said the story is awesome and getting better for every book. So I still recommend it heartily.
