Story
Barbra Streisand is by any account a living legend, a woman who in a career spanning six decades has excelled in every area of entertainment. She is among the handful of EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) and has one of the greatest and most recognizable voices in the history of popular music. She has been nominated for a Grammy 46 times, and with Yentl she became the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major motion picture. In My Name Is Barbra, she tells her own story about her life and extraordinary career.

A Remarkable Complex Woman in her own words!
Reviewed: 10-16-24
I have been an Audible subscriber since 2004, and have listened to over 700 titles.
This is the first one that I have felt compelled to revue.
Ms Streisand has written a remarkable book about her remarkable life.
As a lifelong diarist, she is able to reference conversations and feelings she had decades ago. She goes into minute detail about her evolution as a singer, actor, director, and producer.
My only issue is that her narrative is read at an excruciatingly slow pace. I recommend listening to it at 1.25 or 1.50 speed.

King's Best?
Reviewed: 03-18-22
I've been a Steven King fan since Carrie and have read (listened to) most of his books. I think this might be his finest work. The protagonist is a hit man with a conscience (go figure. ) Instead of traditional flashbacks, King develops his character by making him an aspiring writer who "writes" his story as the book unfolds. I believe King reveals very personal feelings about his own writing process, with an ending that brought this "macho" listener to tears.

Story
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, whether climbing the highest volcanoes in the world or racing through anthrax-infested Siberia. He came up with a radical vision of nature, that it was a complex and interconnected global force and did not exist for man's use alone. Ironically, his ideas have become so accepted and widespread that he has been nearly forgotten.

This might be the first that I have revued a book.
This book about Alexander Von Humboldt introduced me to the most incredible person I had never of.
His writings inspired such disparate notables as Charles Darwin and John Muir.
Andrea Wulf tells his story in an extremely compelling and listenable manner.

Story
Part noir, part psychedelic romp, all Thomas Pynchon - Private eye Doc Sportello surfaces, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era. In this lively yarn, Thomas Pynchon, working in an unaccustomed genre that is at once exciting and accessible, provides a classic illustration of the principle that if you can remember the '60s, you weren't there. It's been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with.

I first read this book over 60 years ago. It was one of the books that ignited my lifelong passion for intelligent Science Fiction. Upon listening to it now at the age of 73, I found the "science" to be amazingly prescient, and Mr. Heinlein's prose to be just as engaging as it was to me as a 12 year old with stars in his eyes.

Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

This program provides a unique look back at one of the defining periods in U.S. history. And, in the process, highlights some disturbing parallels with current events! Martin Sheen's narration is flawless. My one minor quibble is that the redundant credits at the beginning and end of each episode could have been edited out.
