About this listen

Seth Weinstein always knew Tina was way, way, way out of his league. Which is why he’s still astonished that he’s on a plane heading for their wedding in Florida. The Groom Posse has already pulled an airport prank on him - and he’s survived! It should be easy going from now on.

But Seth has absolutely no idea what he’s about to get into. A simple drink or two with the boys sparks a series of events that will pit Seth and his friends against everything and everyone imaginable, from his very powerful, very disapproving soon-to-be father-in-law to the federal government to a love-struck orangutan.

Seth’s hope for smooth sailing is turning into a trip on the Titanic. And the water is getting deeper by the minute...

Great Read!

The story is amazing! There is no funnier story out there! I love, love, loved this book. only criticism is that it is read by the author who does a decent job, but is not quite the same caliber performer one is used to with Audible. His dry style compliments much of the book but can put a reader off if they dont push through the first few chapters. Read this book!

Laughed way too loud at work

I put off getting this book for sometime because I know what it means to listen to Dave's books at work.... Laughing out loud through most of it while at work is kinda awkward.... But it was worth it! The ending didn't seem to explain how they got out of most of the trouble they got into. I figured they'd be in a lot more or at least some trouble.... So that was kinda strange how it all ended. But it was funny above all as I expected.

Dave Barry Lives!

I had lost track of Dave Barry, so this was a pleasant surprise.

The BAD: You've read/seen/heard the bare outline of this plot a gazillion times before: the bachelor party just before the wedding that goes awry, the "perfect" wife-to-be, who isn't, the rich father of the bride who wants everything to be perfect for his beautiful daughter etc., and so the novel isn't all that surprising in that regard. These aren't spoilers: they just demonstrate that much of the structure of this novel is utterly predictable. And to some degree, the madcap antics in South Florida are reminiscent of Barry's fellow Floridian, Carl Hiaasen.

The GOOD: It IS Dave Barry, so when it gets funny, it gets VERY funny, laugh so hard the car is shaking funny. And more off-color than his newspaper columns, and appropriately so. I won't reveal the details of the funniest parts--they're what make it worthwhile. It's a bit like having a bunch of little Dave Barry newspaper columns that pop up unexpectedly in the middle of an ordinary novel. That's a good thing, And I would add that the stereotypical bachelor party novels/movies(and even Carl Hiaasen novels) don't feature an orangutan as a major character.

The DELIVERY: I don't know the narrator, but he's just right for this book.

Progressive insanity

Where does Insane City rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Overall, this was as entertaining as any I've listened to.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I kept thinking that at any time Trevor was going to take over the steering wheel!

What about Dave Barry and The Gza ’s performance did you like?

Dave Barry really should restrict himself to just writing and leave the reading to someone else.

If you could rename Insane City, what would you call it?

Great Read!

Dave Barry as a novelist! Hell yes! In this book, Barry leads us on a frantic excursion into the absurd and back again. To me, this is the book was evocative of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas without (most of) the drugs. I'd have given it six stars if it was possible.

Classic Dave Barry

This is a light-hearted but witty story in classic Dave Barry style. The audiobook had me laughing out loud at times and Dave Barry does a great performance. Highly recommend to existing fans of the author, and a great intro for those unfamiliar with his work. I hope he writes more novels.
