I am greatly disappointed in this book. Why is it that Christians from the West are so dispised? who is this author to say that we have not been persecuted? My father and mother were both beat for their faith in Jesus by their family and by neighbors. Just because it is not in the news or in books does not mean it does not happen in the West. Also, who is this author to say what trials we receive or what a trial is? God decides those things not us.

I appreciate the raw viewpoint of this author. However, she makes China out to be a sad place. I taught English in China. While there indeed is great oppression from the government of China, I can tell you that I saw glimmers of hope among my students and their families. China is not done. There is hope.

I regularly enjoy listening to the stories of those who have come to Christ. I have no doubts that the events described in this book are genuine and true. However, there seems to be something nagging me that not all of the truth was told in this book. There seems to be something vital that was left out. I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't seem to me that the story was told in its entirety.

Also, the author seems to paint a very ugly picture of all Muslims, as if we should be sending DSS to each of their homes to check on their children. Not that I support Islam, but I do know that there are very loving Muslim homes that exist in both America and in the Middle East.

I also wonder if the author has true forgiveness in her heart. I know that God sees the heart and that we cannot truly say what the heart of others are unless God reveals it somehow, but it just seems to me that this book was written solely to point out negative facts.

I also want to point out the that the foster families in the South are not horrible as depicted by the author. Before her descent from her family, Rifqua only ever lived in the Northern United States. Having moved from the West to a Southern state, I can testify that there is a vast cultural difference. I have to wonder if the author's emotional lenses prevented her from seeing that.

I wish a woman had narrated the book since it is written by a woman.

I think that this book has good intentions, but the authors were so wordy. They over explain things to the point that you loose the thought process.
