The Moon Maid (A trilogy)

This book contains The Moon Maid, The Moon Men, and The Red Hawk. The first reads a bit like John Carter crossed with At The Earth's Core. The remaining two are continuations of the first, each several generations later as the Earth has been overrun by the Moon Men. As such, these two read as post apocalyptic distopias. In my personal opinion, not nearly as entertaining as the first. I would not review them as ERB's best. However, Burroughs fans will still enjoy his writing.

The audiobook itself is somewhat annoying to me. Rather than have breaks at chapter ends, it's broken into hour and a quarter segments which make trying to figure out where you are in the trilogy, difficult.

Totally in line with what's happening to our country today. Only this author wrote fiction.

Just great entertainment

The moon maid...and another 2 centuries.

The story was a lot longer than necessary. Also, if you’re looking for a continuation of the Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, you’re going to be out of luck here. Barsoom is mentioned many times, but only in passing and Julian 9th is no John Carter. The narrator does a good job reading the story but, as I said, the story just keeps going and going. Not my favorite, but certainly better than most sordid sex novels published these days. The futuristic and interplanetary imaginings of Burroughs are creative and engaging to open-minded readers. If you like futuristic dystopia as well as steampunk science fiction, you’ve come to the right place. Not quite Jules Verne, but definitely in the same genre.

Interesting futures

This book presents an interesting future for America. The author clearly shows his view on the increasingly weak minded policies of the new government and it’s affects on the people. Due to weakness, and a significant lack of guns, the human race fall prey to the alien Kalkars. The first part starts off fantastically with an adventure on the Moon with a story resembling his previous works of John Carter and Carson. However, the next part were perhaps the authors own commentary and fears of a future where America is taken over by communism. Then the last and 3rd part were about forgiveness between generations of hatred. Like many of his other books, ERB never really finishes storylines that was created in his previous works, this can be a bit frustrating.

It is good, except that it ends without going back to the point of the story being told.

Boring

Very boring,it spends to much time explaining things, waste of $$$$$$$$$$ and I am a burrough fan.
