Acerca de esta escucha

When Carson Napier's giant rocket crash-lands on the planet Venus, he knows that there will be no return to Earth for him. His only option: find a way to survive until other Earth rockets can reach him—if they can!

Beneath the eternal clouds, contrary to everything science predicted, Carson finds a race of strange people inhabiting trees that make the giant redwoods of California look like mere saplings.

Venus is a startling world where semi-civilized beings stand against frightful, bloodthirsty creatures in a brutal struggle for survival. It's a place of unmapped oceans dotted with great islands; a world whose trees pierce the clouds and whose cities squat on their branches; a planet whose inhabitants include the virtuous Vapajans, the ruthless Thorans, and a menagerie of nightmarish monsters, all struggling with each other for dominance.

Has Carson Napier arrived in time to save the Vapajans, or is his arrival the signal for their annihilation at the hands of the vicious Thorans to begin?

Carson Napier's adventures, and his search for the stunning Venusian Princess Duare, are a Burroughs novel in the best Tarzan tradition.

Enjoyable for some light listening

I've listened to BJ Harrison's narrations of the John Carter on Mars series (first three books), I enjoyed that so much I listened through a second time. Discovered also after reading some of the Tarzan series that I really enjoyed ERB's stories. This is my first venture into the Venus series and the experience fell a little flat for me compared to the Barsoom books. I think the story is pretty good, but the narration doesn't quite give it the flair or "oomph" it deserves.

the racism

most reviewers will point out Edgar Rice Burroughs complete hatred communism, which is probably Fair considering the time he wrote it and the country he's from. what reviewers don't mention is the sheer racism in this story. obviously a good reader should be able to separate old values from modern values and intellectually enjoy a story in much the same way the people can still enjoy the work of Wagner. however when you're actively naming your resistance group after the KKK and endorsing certain people returning to slavery a line has been crossed. that wasn't even okay for the vast majority of Americans at the time this book was written.

Very Good

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrator did a good job and the story was engaging. It makes me want to continue with the series.

Nice, solid

This is a nice recording of a nice story. I’m glad someone is recording the ERB books.

Excitement On Venus!

Sword and Planet adventure at its best! This is the beginning of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Venus series, featuring the adventures of Carson Napier. Originally headed towards Mars in a primitive rocket ship, Carson takes a wrong turn an ends up on Venus instead. He falls in love with a beautiful princess in a world just as savage and exciting as that found in Burroughs’ better known John Carter of Mars books.

Hope the series continues with the rest of the books in the Carson of Venus series.
