My name is Bird Howsley, and I'm a beautiful disaster. Okay, "beautiful" is probably being generous. But the "disaster" part is right. In a brutal dystopian waterworld, where survival depends on skill and smarts, I'm pretty much always one bad decision away from watching my life go completely down the drain.

Luckily, I have a lifeline: my cute, level-headed sailing teacher, Sargo Paz. Did I say cute? I didn't mean cute. He's just a friend. I definitely don't have weird sex dreams about him.

Anyway, three days ago, I got a message from a guy who's been dead for ten years. That's odd, right? I came up with a plan to go find him, but it went pretty badly sideways, and Sargo and I ended up in the crosshairs of a very sketchy underground organization that now wants us dead.

We didn't know what else to do except flee into the Salt. Now we're stuck together on Sargo's tiny sailboat, facing down pirates and harrowing seas, and things are getting, um—tense between us.

Oh, and did I mention I've been blacking out? Like . . . a lot?

Fast paced, great character development

Love a book that can hold my attention. Great action and perfect twists with slow burn imaginative spice that left me begging for more romance. Already bought the second book!

not what I expected in the BEST way

This book has the most amazing, relatable, main characters. They're so real and I adore that the MCs relationship isn't perfect at all. Both characters show so much growth, but at the same time, but plot is so much more in depth than just character development. This book had a hint of spice and I really look forward to what Im sure is more to come. Everything is entwined and I am so ready to see what else pops up.
Neva Nevarre (I hope I spelled that right) did a fantastic job narrating. Every character had a distinct voice, the pace wasn't too fast or slow, and her voice is super pleasant.
Will definitely be reading more from this author and listening to more from this narrator.

Not bad

I thought there would be some spice between the characters but it just never quite made it there. I liked the characters and the story of a post apocalyptic earth is interesting. I kept feeling like i was waiting for something to happen and then eventually the book just ended. Im going to listed to the second one to see if we get a good conclusion. The narrator does better at the other voices than the main female character.

Post Apocalyptic Realness

Most of the time, dystopian novels feel very ... divorced from reality. But this book has a very realistic world building after the end of humanity as it is currently. It seems very plausible for a world impacted by climate change and corruption to function this way. Plus the main character is NOT the improbable badass that most dystopian female juggernauts are. Bird is Messy, and drinks too much, and zones out in class. She's NOT a badass, or in a ridiculous love triangle. She's confused and acts much more like a real teenager

Fun ride

This book has it all! If you follow Liz on Instagram you know she has a terrific sense of humor. Her writing is fun and witty but so heart felt too! The love story is good but the story as a whole is outstanding..like citrus and cinnamon.

Excited to start Book 2

I enjoyed the story-telling and detail of this very well-written story. A bit slow at times, but that’s to be expected with such detailed plot and character building. The plot reveal near the end has me excited to start the next book now!

Slow Story

The narration was good and at a good pace, but the story itself was slow and just not that good. I'm not the best at putting my thoughts into words but I DNF this book. I gave it 18.5 chapters and just couldn't take it anymore. I was really done way before then but I tried to stick it out.
