I'm sure your first question is: Can you actually learn a foreign language while you’re asleep? Well, according to a Swiss research study in 2014, the answer is unassailably, YES! In this study, a group of German speakers was given a list of unfamiliar Dutch words to study. Half were instructed to get some sleep, while they listened to long lists of Dutch words and translations. The other half was instructed to stay awake. Four hours later, they were tested and the group that listened while they slept had significantly higher recall. The study concluded that people can indeed absorb new information passively during non-REM sleep - which is the deep sleep we get in the first few hours of the night.

This audiobook is divided into six chapters, each with different kinds of vocabulary, and with different music. Choose a different chapter each night, or loop the audiobook to have a continuous stream. Some listeners - those with more experience with the foreign language - have reported that these recordings allow them to dream in that language!

Good but with some Pronunciation problems

I think it’s good. But clearly the speaker is not native and has difficulty pronouncing the R and putting some accents in the right place.

Great for auditory learner

I'm currently trying to learn Spanish and was told that Italian and Spanish are similar, so here I am...trying to pick up Italian as well. I really like how calm the background music and narration is. Very soothing for bedtime. Though I don't play it while I sleep I would listen to it 30 minutes before going to bed and set a sleep timer on the app.

Good for sleeping but not learning

The science they reference regarding learning language while you sleep seems dubious. Italian words featured, as one of the few real reviews mentioned, are often bizarre and useless to new language learners. I was able to successfully sleep while listening to it - so at least they got that right.

Not native speaker

I guess it’s OK for going over vocabulary. Person who narrates obviously is not Italian- for example pronounced cervello- servello. That’s pretty basic Italian. Also the music in the background is not loud enough. So the relaxation isn’t as good as it could be.

Osmosis doesn’t work

The claim that you will learn Italian in your sleep is false. I’ve listened to this audiobook for weeks and can’t recall anything beyond basic stuff I already knew.

Wow! This was so relaxing!

What a great way to learn a new language! This audiobook was so relaxing and soothing. The repetition really helped embed new words and helped excel my learning. Looking forward for more audiobooks like this. I highly recommend this book and it is a must have for those who love to learn or would like a new way to learn a language!

Great Way to Learn Italian!

Recently my brother in law has taken work in Italy, and is continually traveling back and forth, so my wife and I decided to try and learn Italian together. I'd heard about other audio programs designed help you learn another language in your sleep, and when I saw this, figured I'd give it a shot! Believe it or not, it really seems to work.. Throughout my day, when I'm running through my internal dialogue about things to do, occasionally I'll find myself substituting a thought for the word in Italian. My wife and I are finding ourselves working Italian into our every day dialogue, and are having fun expanding our way of communicating!

The delivery, dialogue and ambience is extremely pleasant to listen to, and is not hard to listen to in a meditative state, or to fall asleep to depending on your preference. The narrator speaks in an even, easy to listen to tone, and the content is structured to be easily learned.

Would recommend to anyone who is planning to travel to Italy, or is looking to learn Italian one way or another in an unconventional way!

Love this book!

Another amazing book from the author. I came over from the Spanish book. What a great way to learn another language. I get to meditate at the same time. The music and pace are just perfect for a very relaxed state of mind. Italian sounds so beautiful here, I just want more! One audiobook that does the job of two separate books, who'd thought it would be so perfect! Get the book so you can try your own learning and meditation. This book is amazing!
