A great start

What a great course to get started with Italian! This gets you ready for simple conversation while traveling. I highly recommend.

Amazing Class

This was a great class! I listen to it every morning on my way to work. I studied Italian in college but since have not kept up as well as I liked, and this class helped me refresh everything!

Excellent! Helpful!

I’ve been trying to get my head around verb tenses and conjugations. This really helped! It moved me from beginning to intermediate in just a few days.

Paul’s untraditional method of teaching is wonderful! The clues he provides to remember important information is so unique and useful. It’s also great that he doesn’t expect you to cram everything into your mind the first time you hear it. So you actually enjoy going through his lesson knowing he will circle back to new topics again later on to refresh your memory. Totally loved it and learned a ton. Will be using the last chapter for practice as he suggested very often. It’s a bit of a speed-round of everything you learn in the book. Such a well thought out set of lessons.

Easy to follow and learn

I liked his method of relating to sounds in Enhlush along with the random repetition of words and phrases throughout. I was able to build my own sentences.

Mixed emotions, but overall recommend

I listened to this as a complete beginner to Italian, but with background in Spanish, French and Portuguese. What I learned from this course, I learned well and feel confident and capable. I feel like I'm pronouncing things relatively well and although I don't have any idea how to spell many of the words I can speak, I believe it's a better way to learn if you plan on speaking and listening rather than reading and writing.

My main complaint is that I didn't learn very basic things like "Hi, how are you?" and "You're welcome". It seems strange that I can say, "I'd like to reserve a room for two people, for three nights, with bath." and "I am not feeling well, I vomited. I have sun stroke" but I didn't learn simple greetings except for "ciao". I got the second course and still haven't encountered what I would like to learn before traveling (greetings, important items I might see on a menu, directions (things like left, right, ahead, etc). From the second course, I can say "I was in the middle of cooking dinner when you knocked on the door" but I don't think I'll need to say that on my trip.

Overall I'd recommend the book if you would like to improve your ability to listen to and speak Italian but you'll definitely need a supplement if you plan on traveling.

More useful than 6 months of Duolingo

I recently went to Italy after 6 months of daily practice on Duolingo (not slouching either- I’m in the top 2% on the platform) and found myself unprepared for most basic exchanges.
I think the moment I realized I needed a better tool was when I found myself in a cafe, pointing at a sandwich in a case but unable to say “I’d like that one” in Italian.
So I turned to audible and I’m glad I did.
I’ve made more progress towards becoming conversational with this course than I did in the previous 6-9 months.
Paul’s teaching style is very easy to follow: rather than rote memorization of hundreds of words, he drops etymological bombs that add many words to your vocabulary instantly. For example, almost every word in English which ends in “ation” (Latin root), simply changes the end to “are” in Italian—that’s 1,200+ words. :head_exploding_emoji:
I also particularly like his use of having a native Italian speaking woman answer the questions which he’s asking you, after a short pause.
I shouldn’t totally discount Duolingo- I’m sure the 6 months I did (and I continue to use it) helped prepare me for this course to some extent- but if I had to choose one, I’d choose this course, without question. Kind of mind blowing that it only cost a single book credit on Audible. Can’t recommend enough.

A must for learning Italian

This course is excellent. Put everything together nicely. I will be taking all of his course on Italian. Highly recommend.
