Experience a Fantasy LitRPG Adventure from the lead designer on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim!

A new world. An empire out to get him. He must earn Glory to survive... then thrive.

After an accident, Laran wakes up in a strange fantasy world governed by a System, with his only knowledge coming from his fiery tutorial assistant, Toot, a faerie who is more snarky than helpful.

Even worse, the Undying Empire is hunting him for reasons he doesn’t understand. That means hordes of undead soldiers, dark assassins lurking in every shadow, and worse.

The good news is that apparently he is considered a Glory Seeker here, meaning he's able augment almost anything he does by using points of Glory, a resource earned through actions in the world—heroic or villainous.

Focusing his build on Shadow Magic, Stealth, and Tinkering, Laran will make himself as impossible to catch as he is deadly. And an affinity for inventing contraptions brings him the attention of the Mechanist Guild.

The empire may be out to get him, but Laran vows to get them first. He'll learn fast, befriend worthy companions, and acquire the power necessary to destroy the lich emperor before it destroys him.

Don't miss the start of a crunchy, action-packed LitRPG Adventure by Bruce Nesmith, formerly a senior game designer for Bethesda Game Studios, a creative director for D&D, and the lead designer on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Who better to tell this progression fantasy tale

Skyrim 2.0

I quit this book after his first time getting 'Glory' from a quest. I'm so mad at this book. It had so much promise and I feel like the book description lied to me.

The new world is Skyrim 2. I'm not kidding. The MC gets hit by a truck, and the US government saves his brain by putting it in a video game to train him to become a super soldier who controls drones with what's ever left of his brain. oh and I missed it but it seems like if you die in the game the government just unplugs you or so the MC is acting. The MC also acts as if he is in another world despite knowing and believing he's in a game. I mean, this man gets sick and wants to cry after killing rats. Yes, rats. Man-eating rats, at that. Every time he has to kill something, he throws up. This man is having a mental breakdown over killing monsters in a video game. Then he meets someone who admits to killing one of her last party members and willingly invited her to his group. And we're ment to like this woman who kills her party members over loot.

The Mcs Shadow magic? Requires there be shadows. Does he get a spell to create shadows? Maybe, but I stopped listening when he was around level 5 and still couldn't. But you know what an option he could have gotten was to make his or another's shadow disappear. That would be cool if he ever had to face another shadow mage, but why would you ever take a spell that shoots you in the foot?

The one thing this book had going for it, the Glory mechanic, turns out not that interesting, or at least its first use wasn't. It's a resource pool that drains over time, so use it when you get it. That enhances what you can already do, but you can only spend as much Glory as your level peruse.

This is a super fun Isekai adventure!!!

Laran hit by a truck is Isekaied right into the thick of things. A world full of Beasts in this kill or be killed system. And he was immediately told that this was a super secret government project to create super soldiers, but is it... and Laran jumped right into the fray.
So grab the audiobook to enjoy this super fun Isekai adventure... although I'd never heard Johnny Heller before he was amazing...

Here's a couple of quotes that surprised and amused me:

“You and I make a good team, though.” “Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser,” she said. “Who?” “Old books of my mother’s that I read."

"Taking hold of the rope, Laran swung back toward them, yodeling a Tarzan yell."

He cried over killing in a VR game.

I wish I would’ve read the reviews more, the book or horrible, he doesn’t go into another world, he’s put into an VR game. And then cries about having to kill in it.
