Wonderful again’

Another great installment of this series. I hope there will be more! Publishers seem to only push fantasy with blood and explosions which can be fun but clever and cozy books like this are such a perfect palette cleanser. This one is lovely and very heartfelt. Great plot and page turningly interesting :-) Swoony too! Loved it. Hope the author is hard at work in another right now!

Another fun adventure

Emily got on my nerves a bit more in this one, but it continues to be an enjoyable series.

Can anybody make me their fairy queen?

This book is a cup of the most comforting tea as well as the fluffiest robe. Not to mention an encyclopedia for anyone venturing to a fairy realm, such as Elfhame

Loved it!!

I hadn’t intended to start book 3 so soon after finishing 2 but I’m so glad I did. I loved how the story evolved and brought in so many elements from the first two. It feels like there’s more than enough set up for future books and I certainly hope that’s the case!!

Mostly Great

You know this series must be great when someone like me - someone who hates fairy stories because who wants to read about stuck up characters with the mentality of superpowered children - can still enjoy the story and even look forward to future releases. With that said, this one was probably my least favorite of the series. I particularly despise "rug pull" endings where you think things are winding down but, oh no, something is still terribly wrong and the main character must slog through yet more trying plot before the end. To some degree, this happens twice. The second time was far too much for me and partially spoiled the book. I'm sure that I am in the minority with this sentiment, but I just found the book became tedious with three hours or so still to go. I loved this series, but I think this is a good ending point for it and would not be interested in any more books in the series... probably. Maybe. Perhaps.

Emily Wilde, the Scholar

I love Emily Wilde, so having a chance to join her on her most recent adventures is a blessing. I lost sight of her in Wendell’s kingdom, however. Perhaps she lost sight of herself there. But I also found Wendell to be surprisingly saccharine, as a monarch, and more of a one-dimensional book-boyfriend in Faerie. Almost everything he said and did in Faerie was dreamlike and reasonable and predictable, three traits that, according to the world-building, are antithetical to faeries. The topic of how Wendell and Emily *rule* is also not well developed. They are kind to the small ones, yes, but how they govern on a daily basis is left unanswered and this kind of mundane detail might have helped ground the character development in Faerie. (For example, how will Wendell and Emily handle the fallout from the other kingdoms that his stepmother had conquered?)

When Emily returns to her scholarly habitat, she is once more recognizable and delightful. Emily is a wonderful character and her moments with Shadow were heartfelt and well done. Wendell is a great foil for Emily, but I expected more spice and unpredictability from him in Faerie.

A nice end..

Not as good as the previous two books, but I still enjoyed spending time with the characters again.

Sobbing over a perfect conclusion

I loved this book the most out of the three, just a fitting end and so well done.

So Addictive

I'm mid-way through the third and so far, best, of the Emily Wilde books. I was thinking, as I laughed at Heather Fawcett's wry and understated sarcastic wit, that if only the Wizard of Oz books had been so amusing I would have gotten through 2-14 of that series. But I digress. (Honestly, I was only 8 so I thought, maybe I'll like them better when I'm older, but alas, no. There are obviously many hidden political meanings that pass me by.) Back to Emily Wilde and her enchanted kingdoms of Fairy. Read them, read them all. And enjoy.

The ending we deserve

It was everything I needed and more! Charm and whimsy dripping from every scene and all the quippy lines we love so much.
