Fantastic historical fiction that really brings to life a great era in West African history.
Everyone has heard of the fabled city of Timbuktu. This book gives you a glimpse into the daily lives of the people who once lived there. What a wonderful historical fiction! Very exciting, and an interesting and complex love story. I was aware of the Great West African pre-colonial civilizations of Ghana, Songhai, and Mali. I was aware of the great emperor Mansa Musa. Still I learned a lot from the excellent research of the author that went into this book. The heroines character growth was amazing! I can't wait to read the sequel!
