Acerca de esta escucha

One great series in a single offering!

The world is changing, and it needs a new Alpha. It needs me.

I was doing well enough before the Apocalypse, but fast cars and penthouses mean nothing when the world changes into a wasteland filled with parasite-infested mutants.

Now, the iron will that made me king of the boardroom is going to make me king of this new world. I am going to unlock my true power, I’m going to cultivate it, and I am going to dominate!

Bundled Action Packed SciFi Harem Adventure

The Graphic fantasy and suspenseful plot was a very satisfying listen. I will seek more from Jack Bryce’s other books. I was riveted listening to the performances of both narrators. Katana Jones is spectacular as she voiced the 5 women and gave them their own personalities. Gabriel Michael is quite good except he has nuances I find irritating to listen to. But overall it doesn’t detract from the Audible experience.

The dual narration at times made the book feel like watching a movie with your eyes closed. Very intertaining

The story was well written and quickly very immersive. Loved the series and kinda sad it’s over like all good things must end

It's alright

Romance part is amazing, I just wish that MC wasn't so God damn helpless all the time, but then again my preference has always been on the more calculated and powerful MC, instead of the stumbling idiot who doesn't think more ahead than his dick can reach 😂

voice editing

I like the way they put quite an soft noises an voice in the back ground behind narrator. It was mostly for the spicy stuff but it would of also been great if they could of done it for the fights or action as well. Wouldn't have to be loud just there help sell the moment better. Over good story.

Cultivation Lite, The Magnificence of Katana Jones, and The Hand of The Author

To call this a cultivator story is a bit generous. The Cradle Series by Will Wight is a cultivation story. This is a story with powers that lean toward cultivation. Nothing Xianxia here. More a superpower origin story with cultivation dreams. The author incorporates loosely done meditation and a smutty variant of sex cultivation and… boom! Call it a cultivation story!

Barely, but that’s not my real problem. But before that, let me say that I generally enjoyed the whole series. Especially the narrator’s performances. Katana Jones is particularly excellent throughout the series. Five main characters and the voice of the MC’s son, Mac (I think), make her the MVP of the entire series in my opinion. I never was lost with who was speaking, even when there wasn’t an affirmation to designate who had spoke. Not just professional, but extraordinary. She is the shining star of this series. Gabriel Michael did a solid job with what he was given. Especially Greg. Bang up job!

Now, let me talk about what makes me very angry about this story. So much so that it constantly threw me out of the story. That is the overall overreach of “The Hand Of The Author”.

By this, I mean that the main character is stupid in the stupidest places and then a crafty genius soon after. I’ll try to keep it spoiler free while I explain my problem. In book 1, Ben develops a power that will obviously give him an edge in every combat encounter he’d ever be in from that moment on. However, this also makes most of the world’s conflicts trivial. Instead of truly making the situation more dangerous or give a means to justify the lack of this power’s usage, the author simply made the MC act like it doesn’t exist. He doesn’t use the damn power consistently until book 4! Yet, he whips the same power out against the same “unbeatable” monsters when he needs to get the MC out of trouble that should literally kill him!

M4A1 Rifles use 5.56mm cartridges. These bullets can penetrate bone, but according to the author they can’t. He may have made this assumption on his own, but if he wanted it believed by the readers, he should’ve let the characters attempt to show us it doesn’t work instead of telling us it doesn’t. This one unrealistic interpretation of reality made the entire series look crazy to me. The point of making the MC not use obvious powers/weapons to kill enemies in order to build tension or to make the altercations between enemies more dangerous only made Ben look like an idiot. They have moments early on where they have limited ammunition, but enough for some newly acquired rifles. Instead of using the powers to help, they blow ammunition until they’re out of it.

This makes your MC look so dumb. Especially when he’s used the power prior with a handgun to kill a softer target. He then doesn’t use the power again until book 4 where he does the things he should’ve been doing since book 1 or 2 the latest. Instead the author writes him like he never had the power, and thus looks like an idiot.

Another point happens when he gains the use of a very powerful power that lets him gain access to all of his ladies’ powers. He has one lady that lets him shield himself from the powers of the big bad. He knows this power exists. He’s used it a couple times between book 4 and 5. However, he doesn’t even attempt to use the power while exposing himself to the big bad’s senses on a regular basis and gets found because of this. He constantly talks of his fear of being found, of how he almost always crosses the big bad’s essence when he’s doing this particular activity. Yet, he ignores the ability to shield his mind from the big bad’s senses… why? This, of course does what you’d expect and has the effect of placing a time bomb style of force to push the MC and his team into rushing to the finish line.

Yet, this just makes him look dumb! I understand that the author wanted to keep tension and the supposed sense of danger/urgency. However, when you introduce powers perfect for defeating all of your enemies or one that would keep EVERYTHING YOU SUPPOSEDLY LOVE SAFE, and your MC ignores their existence until things go bad, then he looks like an idiot and not a badass.

I enjoyed the series overall, but seeing The Hand Of The Author so damn much is irksome.

Mr. Bryce’s editor needs to be sat down and talked to. Smut alone can’t hide this stuff.

Great story but...

As far as haremlit books that I've tried, this one is good. My one critique would be the authors overuse of the word "technique". It got increasingly more irritating as the series progressed.

Amazing story

This is my favorite series by far. I’m bummed it’s over but it had a great run.
Great progression, world building, and harem elements.
If you like apocalyptic books with the perfect amount of violence and spice this is the series for you.
You can’t go wrong with this amount of listening pleasure for 1 credit. The narrators did an amazing job.

incredible VA's & Story

VA's were on point and the story is hard to step away from. Some parts had me pretty involved and the action kept my muscles tense in places.
