About this listen

When he was 10, Nathaniel Thibault’s family was killed in a fiery car crash when the family was moving to a new pack in Oakland, CA. As no one knew he survived, no one came to claim him, and he was sent to live in a foster home in Fallbrook, CA.

Two years later, Tracie Lowe entered his foster home after she was taken into state custody after her mother died of a drug overdose. No one knew who her father was. Nathaniel knows she is his fated mate, but he doesn’t tell her. He thinks that at 12, Tracie is too young to understand mates. As she enters her teen years and begins dating, he sabotages every relationship.

When they reach 17, they pledge that if they aren’t married in 10 years, they will marry each other. The following year, Tracie moves to Hollywood to pursue her dreams of being an actress. After eight years of failing to get an acting gig and failed dates, she moves back to Fallbrook, CA.

When Tracie finds out that Nathanial has been sabotaging her dates, she is furious. In a last-ditch effort to keep her, he confesses that they are true mates. The 10-year pledge is nearing. Nathanial has a lot of work to do to make up for his lies and sabotages to win Tracie’s heart.

Note: Not suitable for anyone under the age of 18 due to sexual content.

Loved it!

This was a sweet shifter story. Nate and Tracie meet in foster care. Nate know immediately that they are mates but feels it’s not the right time to let her know. He’s afraid to tell her even after a few dates. They go their separate ways but Nate’s past shows it’s ugly head and puts Tracie and himself in danger. Will the past interfere with their future? The suspense alone will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Collin J. Monette is a new narrator for me. Overall he did a great job.

Quick Read

Even though the book was more fast-paced than I normally like, and I felt there could be more added to the characters' backstorys and relationships, I did still enjoy the quick read. The backstory you do get is filled with s9mething we all feel at one point in our lives - "I want him/her/them to like me for me."

Good Narratiom
