Summary

Trouble heats up when TV host Laurie Moran brings witnesses, family, and friends together to solve cold cases in this thrilling series from “Queen of Suspense” Mary Higgins Clark and best-selling author Alafair Burke.

For her popular true-crime show, Under Suspicion, TV producer and host Laurie Moran brings loved ones and strangers together to re-create and, hopefully, solve cold cases. Off the set, the intrepid investigator keeps digging for evidence and uncovers dark secrets. What’s more, killers don’t always like the media attention; sometimes, Moran winds up being the target. Featuring chilling suspense in elegant settings, the cases range from the sensational Met Gala murder to the mysterious disappearance of a bride from her lavish Palm Beach ceremony to cold-blooded murder for money. The resolution is often emotional and always surprising.

Jan Maxwell’s voice brings warmth to each cold case. As family drama and tensions run high in Under Suspicion, her clear, appealing narration keeps listeners calm and focused on the clues in the first three books. To quote one fan: “Jan Maxwell’s narration is spot-on, one of the best I’ve heard. She can do both male and female voices, and has a good sense of pacing and emphasis. She’s to be commended.”

Mary Higgins Clark began writing to supplement her income—as a widow with five young children to support. Her second novel and first work of suspense, Where Are the Children? (1975), was an immediate success. A number one New York Times best-selling author dubbed the “Queen of Suspense,” Clark wrote 38 suspense novels, four collections of short stories, two children’s books, a historical novel, and a memoir, Kitchen Privileges. She coauthored two popular series: Under Suspicion, with Alafair Burke, and Alvirah and Willy, focusing on the mystery-solving duo of a lottery winner and her plumber husband, with her daughter Carol. More than 100 million copies of her books are in print in the United States alone. Over her lifetime as an author, Clark received many honors, including induction as a Grand Master of the Edgar Allen Poe Awards by the Mystery Writers of America. She died on January 31, 2020, at the age of 92.

Alafair Burke is a crime novelist, professor of law, and legal commentator. Her novels are known for their authenticity and often draw on her professional experience and real-world cases.
