  • 3 Common but Avoidable Hiring Mistakes
    Feb 4 2025

Hello, and welcome to Episode 257 of the People Powered Business Podcast!

In today’s episode I am sharing 3 common but completely avoidable hiring mistakes that businesses make.

    The 3 big mistakes are:

    Lacking Clarity – when you are not clear on the specifics of the role, and the ideal applicant you are looking for, it’s impossible to attract the right people, and repel the wrong ones;

Rushing the Process – not putting appropriate time, energy, expertise and resources into a recruitment project is another common mistake. Hiring well takes time, knowledge and energy.

Failing to Reference and Background Check Effectively – quality reference checking processes remain the most effective way to assess a candidates work history, but few people do them effectively.

These are certainly not the only hiring mistakes, but they are three of the most common, and as you can see they are all easy to avoid.

    Jan 28 2025

Hello, and welcome to Episode 256 of the People Powered Business Podcast!

In today’s episode I am bringing you an excerpt from a best of episode of the podcast – today I am sharing my proven framework for effective resume screening.

The thing is, when we are short on applicants for a role, our usual screening methods tend to go out the window, and as a result we don’t shortlist effectively, which means we are at risk of making poor hiring choices. And what I know to be true is that you can’t outrun a bad hire.

So whether you have 5 applications or 5000 effective screening is essential, and this 5 step framework is super simple to follow and will keep you on track for great hiring choices.

If you’d like to ask questions or start a discussion about note taking, I have an invitation for you.

  • My Top Team Predictions for 2025
    Jan 7 2025

Hello, and welcome to Episode 253 of the People Powered Business Podcast!

In today’s episode I’m following up on last weeks episode where is shared 5 strategies to help set your team up for success in 2025. Today I am sharing my top predictions for your team for 2025.

My 5 top team predictions are:

Job mobility will be on the rise: for a range of reasons, I believe we are heading into a season where more employees will be looking to change employers – this may be good news for you if recruitment has been tough for the last couple of years.

Increase in the use of AI and associated technology: we’re already seeing job applicants actively using AI in their application process – so your hiring skills really need to be on point right now. But on the flip side, how can your team leverage these tools to help them at work?

The right to disconnect implementation will be closely watched by your team. If you haven’t yet put any thought into the practical implementation of this new legislation now is the time.

Focus on wellbeing at work will increase, and I expect this will ultimately become a non negotiable expectation of employees.

Employee expectations will continue to increase. People are no longer looking for ‘just a job’ – they want to feel part of something bigger, like they are contributing and adding value, that they are valued. They want to work for purpose and values led businesses – and they will move if their expectations aren’t being met.

So, what about you? What are your team predictions for 2025? I’d love to know.
