• Grace Hollowell - Stereotypes, Subaru's, and Smart Wives
    Apr 30 2023

Welcome back! Spring racing is in full swing *wink wink*

This episode is near and dear to Lizzy’s heart as we welcome her hot girl rap-loving mentor and friend, Boston College’s Head Coach, Grace Hollowell.

Subaru, Carhartt, and Ice Spice, Oh MY! Hitting all of the stereotypes with exquisite precision, Grace enlightens us on her trajectory through junior to collegiate rowing, her beautiful and wonderful Smithie wife, becoming a head coach at a Jesuit institution, and the subtle to dramatic shift in perception of the queer community through the years.

  • Trans Inclusion? In MY sport!? More Likely Than You'd Think! w/ guest host Erica Tibbets
    Feb 22 2023

Wait, that's not fair! Sports have never been fair!!

Lizzy and Ciara are joined by Dr. Erica Tibbets, a lecturer at Smith College, to discuss USRowing's Gender Inclusion Policy & dispel the myth of fairness in sport. They discuss the recent articles that bash USRowing's policy, which is progressive in its openness to racing under your chosen gender, and explore the nuances of power dynamics around gender in sport. The trio discuss the transphobia that pervades these articles and the importance of youth sport having a development-focused approach rather than a "win at all costs" mentality.

Questions around the new policy? Our DMs are always open @coxlessqueer on Instagram.

    Feb 3 2023

Lizzy and Ciara explore their shifting identities around self, gender, and sport along with guest host Alex Defuso (yes, the one Ciara has mentioned no less than 10 times in past episodes). Alex shares her experience with being misgendered as a masc presenting woman, and dives into her complex relationship with rowing that was caused by the loss of her Senior season in 2020. Pandemic kids, you'll want to give this one a listen, you may find some comfort in knowing you're not the only one out there who struggled. Lizzy shares her shifting identity with a new career step away from Rowing World, and Ciara chats about their relationship with their body during injury.

  • Jess Jackson - DEI, NGB's, & (soon-to-be) MRS's
    Jan 4 2023

Lizzy & Ciara are joined by the one and only Jess Jackson, the current DEI Associate at USRowing and A+ human being. Jess shares her path to rowing (s/o to her fiancé for the job spot!) and her vision of the future of our sport, as well as a couple of laughs here and there. Jess' story is one of our favorites so far; someone so committed to making our sport a better place, having never done it, is someone special in our book. As always Lizzy & Ciara round out the episode exploring Jess' sexual awakening movie character (you'll never guess who) and her favorite + least favorite rowing experiences.
