    Stretching is such an important - and often overlooked - part of a healthy fitness routine. It can prevent injury, improve flexibility and mobility and promote active recovery. But what kind of stretching is best? And when should you do it?

    We’ve all read about the importance of a good evening wind down routine. You know the drill - maintain a consistent bedtime, turn off your screen, dim your lights, avoid caffeine, etc. But how many nights do we find ourselves tossing and turning long after the lights have gone off? Or waking in the middle of the night unable to drift back to sleep?

    What you may be missing is a quick bedtime routine that you can do, maybe even on your bed at night, that will help ease your joints and your muscles and help your mind wind down.

    This week we’ll do a quick recap of WHY getting good quality sleep is so important, especially for women in midlife. Then I’m going to walk you through three simple exercises that take about 5 minutes, and that you can do from the comfort of your own bed.   • 386. The Wake-Up Call - His Fitness Saved His Life (And other incredible stories!)

    As a coach and trainer, it’s easy to get so focused on building muscle, tackling body fat and teaching healthy habits that I lose sight of the bigger picture. Until something comes along and puts it all into perspective.

    Recently I received a text from a client that acted as that wake-up call. It reminded me that, yes, improving our fitness and nutrition is important, but creating lasting habits has a far greater impact than we realize.

    This week I’ll tell you a story about Jim, a doctor in his 60s whom I have coached for 14 years. Jim’s commitment to building healthy habits was never more important than when he suffered a massive heart attack. Suddenly those habits may have been the difference between life and death.

    And while it might sound dramatic, I hear similar stories all the time - how a client’s commitment to improved fitness helped prevent a major injury or ailment that could have proved devastating.

    I want these stories and this episode to be encouraging for you, but also motivating. I know how fleeting motivation for exercising and eating healthy can be. But this is probably exactly what you need to hear today.
