    MICHAEL HURST

When it comes to acting in NZ there is very little this guy has not done.

Michael and his wife, Jennifer Ward Lealand are the definition of an acting power couple. She was even named NZ of the year in 2020.

At the time of recording this they are about to star in a new play together called “In Other Words.”

    (It's on at Auckland's Q Theatre from 3-15 September)

    https://www.qtheatre.co.nz/shows/other-words

This conversation is a small part of the Michael Hurst story.

From moving to NZ from the UK as a kid.

How he fell in love with acting and, in particular, Shakespeare.

We talk about the Hercules and Xena era which made him an international celebrity, not to mention a lot of money. So many cool stories about this era, including his recollections of working with a young Ryan Gosling. And the time he hit Hercules in the head with a sword.

Michael Hurst is an incredibly passionate and enthusiastic guy who has devoted his whole life to his craft, and it was a pleasure to pick his brains for a long form chat like this. I hope you guys like this.

  • Fighting Stage 4 Bowel Cancer - How Runner Jackie Robertson was Diagnosed with No Symptoms
    Aug 28 2024

    The Jackie Robertson Podcast:

Towards the end of 2023, just a couple of weeks after running a half marathon, the very fit and healthy Waikato mum went in for a routine blood test that changed her life.

Jackie was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer that had also metastasized into her liver.

For Jackie, who had zero symptoms, this news was extra tough because she is also the mother of a non-verbal son on the autism spectrum.

This is Jackie Robertson's story. It’s not pretty…but it is powerful and inspiring.

Thanks so much to the incredible team at ANZ for supporting this episode. ANZ has been proud partners of the cancer society for 34 years now.

  • Michaela Blyde on Winning Gold in Paris, Meeting her Idol, Overcoming Bullying & Body Image Issues
    Aug 25 2024

Michaela Blyde has just recently returned from the Olympics in Paris where she won her second gold medal, playing Rugby Sevens for the Black Ferns

I think this will go down as one of my favorite episodes of all time- just because of her attitude, energy, enthusiasm and authenticity. And just because she’s bloody hilarious and fun to be around.

We talk a lot about her recent Olympic experience, including being drug tested immediately after winning gold and going viral after meeting her sporting idol, the legendary Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (it's a great story- doesn’t get more Kiwi than this)

We also talk about her upcoming wedding to another Gold medalist, her children’s book, body image, the challenges and rewards of elite training, goal setting, manifestation, journaling and so much more.

Michaela is the real deal- a role model on and off the field. This episode is jam packed with cool lessons and stories.

  • Phoebe Harris - 22-Year-Old Kiwi Making a FORTUNE on OnlyFans
    Aug 21 2024

Phoebe Harris is a 22-year-old swimmer who joined the Only Fans platform in January 2022 and since then, she has done VERY well for herself.

Before Only Fans she was on a WINZ benefit. Now, she earns more than the Prime Minister!

So, what IS Only Fans? How much money does she make? How much of a cut do Only Fans take? What sort of backlash and stigma comes with being a success on that platform? What do her partner and parents think of it and much more! Everything you wanted to know about Only Fans but didn’t know who to ask.

In this episode we get to learn a bit about Phoebe, who moved to New Zealand from England as a young girl and fell in love with swimming. And how that has led to an insanely financially rewarding career as an Only Fans creator.

With her Only Fans income she has created a fitness app, become a landlord with three properties, bought her parents their dream caravan and a new car.

She bought her own house at 20 with a $250,000 deposit, she got herself a brand-new Porsche for $340k! She doesn’t drive it all the time though - sometimes she drives her Nissan Navara Ute. And at the time of recording this she had just returned from a first-class trip to Europe.

My goal with all these discussions is to try and get a better understanding of a person and their choices through non-judgmental long form conversation. Thanks for understanding and listening.

The best time to reach out to Generate was as soon as you started working. The second-best time is today! I switched my KiwiSaver over to Generate when they signed on as the show sponsor and my big regret is not doing it sooner!

Most of us sign up for KiwiSaver when we start working and we just go with whatever scheme is being offered by our employers then forget about it.

BUT not all KiwiSaver schemes are the same and YOU could be doing so much better!

  • Sir Graham Henry Reflects on World Cup Wins & Losses, 54-Year Marriage, Depression & More!
    Aug 11 2024

Sir Graham Henry (aka “Ted”) is one of the greatest All Black coaches of all time. He left the role with a win record of 85%

In 2011, with a little help from his friends, he coached the All Blacks to a Rugby World Cup win, breaking a 24-year drought.

This was made even more remarkable on account of a thing called The Henry clause- a rule made by the NZ Rugby union in the late 1990s to make sure Graham would never get to coach the All Blacks after he went overseas to coach Wales.

We talk about that clause and so much more- his early years and how he got together with his soulmate, Raewyn. His self-diagnosed depression which saw him quit coaching in the UK, his 103-test coaching career with the All Blacks and much more.

Sir Graham Henry is a sharp operator, and this was a lot of fun. For me at least. Hope you guys love it.

This episode is brought to you by Generate – award-winning KiwiSaver specialists.

Since I’ve been working with these guys, I get messages every week from friends who have switched their KiwiSaver over to Generate and they all say the same thing- they wish they did it sooner.

  • My Most Chaotic Podcast Ever - Andrew Fagan, NZ Music Legend & Sailor-Adventurer Extraordinaire
    Aug 7 2024

Strap yourself in for a wild ride- my most chaotic podcast EVER!

Andrew Fagan is a kiwi musician. In the 1980’s he was the singer of one of New Zealand’s most popular bands called The Mockers.

Chances are, if you know any of their songs it’ll be Forever Tuesday Morning.

But for a 12-year-old Dom Harvey. He knew every word of every song.

Obsessed is a big word…but that was my relationship with this band called the Mockers. I was a psycho-fan…and I would be prepared fight anyone who dared to disagree they were the best band in the world.

So, to sit down for a long conversation with one of my childhood heroes was something truly special.

This is by far the most unique and bizarre podcast I’ve ever done- Andrew turned up with his own props including a flag, a stool, a bell, a water spray bottle, guitar and amp.

We talk about his life in music, including those years in The Mockers- his recollections of the infamous 1984 Queen Street Riots and the deep impact of losing a bandmate to suicide.

We also discuss in great length his love of solo voyages in the open ocean in small boats.

Then we go deep with some musings on life, aging, mental health and future goals.

Whether you're a long-time fan of The Mockers or new to wonderful world and mind of Andrew Fagan, this episode offers a glimpse into the life of a remarkable New Zealander (who I am lucky to call a mate).
