今回は「日本海最大の離島、新潟県の佐渡島」をピックアップ。
本書は「佐渡島移住」について書かれた日本で初めての本です。
なぜ僕が今回新潟県の佐渡島をピックアップしたのか結論から先にお話しすると、二つの島が繋がってできたこの「金の島」は、「食事」「自然」「文化」そのすべてを兼ね備えている唯一無二の島だからです。
離島であるにもかかわらず離島だということを忘れてしまうほどの便利な環境、豊かな自然と豊かな水産物と農産物、そして「黄金の国ジパング」を陰から支えた金山。
歴史上、佐渡島には全国各地から多くの人々が移住してきました。
そのため、島内でも方言や文化が異なったり、伝統芸能も数え切れないほど残されていますので、歴史や民俗が好きな人はたまらないでしょう。
佐渡島を一言で表すなら「パスポートの要らない海外」という言葉がピッタリでしょう。
