About this listen
The instant New York Times best seller
A practical guide to taking control of your mental health for today, tomorrow, and the days after, from the number one New York Times best-selling author and beloved entertainer.
"There’s a moment at the end of every day, where the world falls away and you are left alone with your thoughts. A reckoning, when the things you have been pushing to the background, come forward and demand your attention."
Written by Daniel Howell, in consultation with a qualified psychologist, in an entertaining and personal way from the perspective of someone who has been through it all — this no-nonsense book gives you the tools to understand your mind so you can be in control and really live. Created with exclusive audio features, it is split into three chapters for each stage of the journey:
- This Night - how to get through your toughest moments and be prepared to face anything.
- Tomorrow - small steps to change your thoughts and actions with a big impact on your life.
- The Days After - help to look after yourself in the long term and not just survive, but thrive.
You will laugh and learn — but most of all, this book will assure you that even in your darkest times, there is always hope.
You will get through this night.

What would happen if you admitted you weren't a good person? It's a seemingly crazy question. From priests to prisoners, nearly everyone thinks they're morally better than average. Why change our minds? In his conversational and delightfully self-effacing style, Brant Hansen shows us why we should fight our drive to be self-righteous: it's breathtakingly freeing. What's more, just admitting that we're profoundly biased toward ourselves and want desperately to preserve our rightness at all costs even helps us improve our relationships with God and others.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Story
Moving from the glamour and dysfunction of 1970s Brooklyn, to the sybaritic materialism of Reagan’s 1980s to post-9/11 New York, Lot Six offers a quintessentially American tale of an outsider striving to reshape himself in the funhouse mirror of American culture. Adjmi’s memoir is a genre-bending Künstlerroman in the spirit of Charles Dickens and Alison Bechdel, a portrait of the artist in the throes of a life and death crisis of identity.

When her daughter is eight, Leah McLaren’s mother abruptly fled her life as rural house wife in search a glamorous career in the city. In the chaotic years that follow, Cecily lurches from one apartment, job and toxic romance to the next. In a home without rules or emotional boundaries, Leah and Cecily become confidants—a state of enmeshment that suits them both. Their bond is loving but also marked by casual indifference. Cecily’s self-described parenting style of “benign neglect” is a hilarious party joke, but for her daughter it’s reality.

Story
In 2020, Tracy O’Neill began to rethink her ideas of comfort and safety. Just out of a ten-year relationship and thirtysomething, she was driven by an acute awareness that the mysterious mother she’d never met might be dying somewhere in South Korea. After contacting a grizzled private investigator, O’Neill took his suggested homework to heart when he disappeared before the job was done. Despite COVID-19, the promise of what she might discover—the possibility that her biological mother was her kind of outlaw, whose life could inspire her own—was too tempting.

Millions of us use restrictive diets, intermittent fasting, IV therapies, and Ozempic abuse to shrink until we are sample-size acceptable. But for the 30 million Americans who live with eating disorders, it isn’t just about less. More, Please is a chronicle of a lifelong fixation with food—its power to soothe, to comfort, to offer a fleeting escape from the outside world—as well as an examination of the ways in which compulsory thinness, diet culture, and the seductive promise of “wellness” have resulted in warping countless Americans’ relationship with healthy eating.

Hollywood producer Hopwood DePree had been told as a boy that an ancestor—who he was named for—had left his family’s English castle in the 1700s to come to America. One night after some wine and a visit to Ancestry.com, Hopwood discovered a photograph of a magnificent English estate with a familiar name: Hopwood Hall, a 60-room, 600-year-old grand manor on 5,000 acres. And with that, Hopwood DePree’s life took an almost fairytale turn.

Educational, funny and empowering all at once
Between the easy categorization for referencing and the humor the author puts into his narration this audiobook is the easiest listen for bettering your mental health I've ever found. Absorbing the information is effortless, everything is scientifically backed and it applies to anyone from the severely mentally ill to those thriving. Truly recommend this to everyone because everyone can benefit from it - if you don't need help correcting things you will inevitably need help maintaining them through life's ups and downs. Thanks to the author for making me feel a little better :)

Wonderful Organization!
One of my biggest issues with mental health books is that the author drones on about their own personal experiences which are so unique to them its hard to find anything within that helps a larger audience. This book does not do that. It is wonderfully organized and set up to be able to find the information you need right away without having to search through the entire thing wondering “wait where is the help?” Daniel Howell’s personal story is brief or sprinkled throughout as a means of providing an example for a particular piece of science or info to better understand it and make the content easily digestible! Overall I would recommend this book to anyone possibly struggling with the their mental health, or to someone who wants to develop a better understanding of it in general. The audio bonus content was great too!

Zazzy
I love Dan Howell, I’ve followed his YouTube career ever since Tyler Oakley did his first collab with him (The one before keyword “whisk”). Dan is so much more intelligent then he leads on in his internet career, and I do fully believe that ever since his coming out video he has blossomed into his own black beautiful butterfly. (Im imaging his wings would be the iconic ikea plaid blanket)
This book was so inspiring and Im so going to recommend it to some of my coworkers who know what YouTubers are, and my mother.
I have no other words other than Zazzy. Zazzy Daniel Howell. Zazzy.
