Acerca de esta escucha

The music of Yes indelibly shaped the original sound of progressive rock. But the true tale of this landmark band goes well beyond headline-making albums like Fragile and Close to the Edge. In this book, Kevin Mulryne tells the absorbing story of the final Yes album of the 1970s, Tormato, uncovering myriad fascinating twists and turns for the first time.

Tormato was my introduction to the music of the world’s greatest progressive rock band, and I have spent years finding out all I can about it,” explains Kevin. “I have spoken to fans, experts and many of the people who were there during the technical setup of the equipment, the recording of the album, and the creation of the artwork.

“Along the way, I have learned a great deal about Yes, and the processes, frustrations and triumphs of recording a rock album in the late ‘70s. This is a deep dive into what makes an iconic band tick. I’m sure you will enjoy the journey as much as me!”

So what’s the real deal with Tormato? Be prepared to be surprised.

If you're a Yes fan reading these reviews, then you're likely familiar with the old trope about Yes in the studio, arguing over every little note and detail, spending precious studio time debating whether or not the next chord should be a D-minor or a D-minor diminished seventh.

I feel like this book is a lot like those stories. There's an obsession with detail. If you want those fine details, then this book is for you. It's a dependable book that is written and read by Kevin Mulryne in the same clear, precise, thoughtful and even voice of his awesome and equally comprehensive Yes podcast.

The book is good. It's informative. But I keep waiting for a Yes book that captures the transcendent majesty I feel when I listen to the music. Maybe I should just enjoy the albums for what they are, and let go my yearning for non-fiction enhancement, no matter how well researched.

Don't Kill The Detail. Dig It. Dig It.

The author goes into great detail about the making of this misunderstood yet critical album. I appreciate the insights about the mini versions of the album the live performance of the album in the instruments plate. If you were a fan of progressive rock, this is a must have if you’re a fan of yes, join the 5% and grab this book.

A fascinating read.
