In the push for westward expansion that preceded the Civil War, white southerners along with other Americans engaged in violent conquest in Latin America and the American West.

A very personal feeling biography
A very personal feeling biography. Humanizes Franklin and made him much more interesting to me. The information about Benjamin’s scientific activities was illuminating. Certainly clarified his kite experiment.
