About this listen

Brittany

Awakening in the middle of a nightmare, I realize I'm being sold like an animal to be studied and dissected in the name of science. Tragedy strikes, leaving me abandoned and sick. I am only moments from taking my last breath, when strong arms pull me from the darkness. I thought it was a blessing that he found me, the green man who had haunted my dreams. But what is the old saying? "Don't count your chickens until they hatch!"

A blood sucking parasite is eating me alive, literally, and no matter what, I'm not going to survive this horror story. He holds me down and I struggle weakly against his immense strength, choking as blood fills my lungs, when I can't fight any more, Death opens its arms and invites me in.

XuL

My harsh, brutal features have deterred all females, no matter the species. Then I find her, my Kismet, the only one made just for me. But the fates are cruel, especially to a male like me.

I am being forced to destroy the fragile bond that has formed between us, as I have to make the hardest decision of my life. One that will make me lose her either way. Upon her final breath, I vow not even Death will keep what's mine.

Contains mature themes.

Britney and Xul

Loved this story. The first book was good even thou I struggled with all the physical abuse Kirra had to go thru by the aliens that abducted them. However this one was so much better. Love how the family is portrayed and Dar the best grandfather. Can't wait for the rest. I hope they will have all the books on audio. Great Narration.

A little fast pace

A little fast paced and sporadic. In the beginning. It gets a little confusing. It’s kind of hard to keep up with male lead.

The Orc and the damsel in distress!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜💚💖
Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😠☺️😋😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Brittany - she was seventeen years old when she was taken captive by alien creatures then sold at auction to a zoo on an alien planet. Though she wasn’t tortured or cut to pieces like some of the women, she saw it all.

The Hero: XuL - oldest son to DaR of the House of DaR. He is half Orc and though he is considered good looking among other Orcs, the way he looks pretty much scare most of the females he meets on Darvarius. He found himself more than interested in humans when he met his father's female, Kira. So, when Kira told them that another woman named Brittney was also sold at the same auction, XuL says he will go find where she was sold and rescue her.

The Story: Brittany ends up as an exhibit in a bestiary, where an AI tells her she is there to be studied. XuL doesn’t have an easy time finding Brittany and when he finally does, he has to fight his way to her, but he knows she is his Kismet, his fated mate. He is determined to not give up until he saves her.

I love this series so far. I have read the first and fourth books so far and each book is completely different than the one before, so this is great. DaR and his 22 sons are all different species, so it is nice that each book is about a different kind of alien. I liked the fact that everything that happened was completely unexpected. Brittany’s time at the bestiary really surprised me and nothing happened like I thought it would.

This book is told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Emily Sutton-Smith and Tor Thom. Tor is one of my favorite narrators with a super deep voice which is great for alien or paranormal romance. Emily has a soft, feminine voice that is very pleasant, and I enjoyed her narration quite a bit.

A Hidden Gem

I’m really loving this series. I dove into this book after finishing the first one. Although it’s a standalone story, I believe it’d be best enjoyed and understood if you listen to them in order. The story is well paced, with some good action to provide a framework for the super sweet romance. There’s a LOTS of chemistry. But it’s slow burn. This book is not for you if you require multiple smexy scenes throughout. It is, however, incredibly heartfelt. The panoply of primary and secondary characters is impressive. The author goes out of her way to develop all of them deeply, and it draws you forward into the next book.

My one complaint is how the author continued the FMC from the previous book in this one. Kira, from the first book, is pretty overbearing and obnoxious as she makes unwelcome and uninvited attempts to mother the FMC in this book. Brittney may be 17 years old, but Kira treats her like she’s 12. Later on, Kira brings Brittney to a market without taking full proper precautions for her safety. When she realizes it, she says “I put you in danger without realizing it.” Does she agree when Brittney says she wants to return home, where it’s safe? No, she does not. She decides she needs to mosey on over to a couple more vendors. I found it an annoying and lazy way to set up the final conflict. This is the author’s fault. Not the character’s.

Nevertheless, it’s a very enjoyable book. Highly recommend.
