About this listen

It was supposed to be a fresh start. A place for Steve and Melody Samson to begin their new life together away from the noise and crime of the city. However, their new home and an idyllic cottage nestled deep within the dense solitude of Oakwell forest - has a disturbing history, hidden for generations by the locals. There is evil in Hope House, and the cursed forest that surrounds it. Evil that has awakened after lying dormant for decades, and has terrifying plans for the young couple.

Once you hear the whispers, it may already be too late.

repetitive in parts. naive plot that needs more work. narrator paused often in wrong places and used incorrect inflection repeatedly.

Better Than Average Southern Horror Story.

Quick review- impressive slightly Gothic Southern horror tale with fairly strong characterization and a well-flowing story that really pulled me in and kept my attention(something that's hard to do). The writer used the "flashback" technique without jarring or breaking the flow of the book which CAN happen if not done correctly. Although Michael Bray does go into some detail about the history of the house/property he never divulges exactly how or why the curse/haunting came to be-at least no explanation I can remember hearing. But that's just a small complaint and really didn't "damage" my enjoyment of the novel. Matt Josdal(narrator) did a very good job with both the male and female characters(especially the old ladies). If you like "haunted house" stories you'll probably enjoy this slightly spooky Southern tale. Worth a cred.

Great story, poor narration

Would you try another book from Michael Bray and/or VOplanet Studios and Matt Josdal ?

The story was great. It was a story that would be better read than listened. The narrator did not at all capture the suspense or terror of the scenes or the emotions of the characters. The tone of the story was lost in the narration.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was great.

What didn’t you like about VOplanet Studios and Matt Josdal ’s performance?

The narrator did not use appropriate emotion in his voice or inflection. He sounded cheerful at times that were intended to sound frightening.

Stupid

Author keeps using the same wording for different descriptions of things. The characters are complete idiots, shallow, common. He doesn't seem to have any original ideas. Go back to writing class.
