About this listen

Terry Naughton, head of Orange County's Crimes Against Youth unit, is the champion of children. Someone calling themselves the Horridus has been abducting children from their beds, dressing them like little angels, and releasing them the next day, the only clue he leaves is a piece of snakeskin tucked into the folds of their gowns. So far he hasn't physically harmed any of them, but as Naughton well knows, it's only a matter of time. As he races to find the madman before his crimes escalate, Naughton learns that the Horridus may not be the only enemy.

When shocking (and seemingly irrefutable) accusations put his career on the line, he is forced to confront his dark and violent past in his search for the truth. Who is behind the setup? And even if he can clear his name, can he do the same for his conscience?

Wasn't sure I would like this.

This was an amazing book to read (listen to). Suspenseful and very real. I don't usually do real. Phil Gigante, again, brought all the characters to life for me. I usually listen while on the treadmill. This book I listened to until I finished it.

Where Serpents Lie=Mystery,Suspence,Betrayel&More!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes it did! The thing with this book is, it didn't matter who the kidnapper/murderer was. The question was when and will they catch him and what else bad can happen to our hero in the meanwhile? You learn early in the book that His (Terry Naughton's) 5 year old son died but you don't learn the whole story until maybe the last 2 minutes of the book and then all you can do it sit back and say WOW! How would I react if that was me? Where this author thought this one up amazes me. Not too many books evoke an emotional response from me knowing this is fiction and purely for entertainment but WOW!

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Phil Gigante did a fabulous job narrating. So much so that I now want to listen to more of the books he reads. Excellent tones, cadence and inflections.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this one. If you are trying to make a decision between this and something else, get this one! I absolutely loved it and WISH there was a sequel. My next listen which I have already purchased (Silent Joe) is another T J Parker, so glad I finall found him and there's lots of new books for me to listen to.

Too many ewwww scenes

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you like snakes.

Would you ever listen to anything by T. Jefferson Parker again?

I have two more of his audio books so I guess I'd have to say yes.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator did a pretty good job. It wasn't his fault that I had to stop listening quite a few times because I didn't want to hear what was going to happen next.

Any additional comments?

Besides the snake scenes I also didn't like one of the subplots, but I won't spoil it for those who might enjoy this book by saying which one.
