About this listen

Rian Thompson thought she joined the gym to get healthy. Little did she know she was about to add 190 pounds of swoonworthy abdominal muscles and arrogance to her life.

Every day in Rians's life follows a predictable pattern, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She's got a nice job, a nice place to live, and a nice family - even if they are a little wedding-zilla-ish at the moment.

She doesn't need anything spectacular to be happy. She just needs to get healthy - mentally, physically...and maybe spiritually if that happens. But she'll settle for two out of three until her sister finally gets hitched.

Carlos Davies thought his life was perfect. Little did he know it was about to be turned upside down by a woman who is not his type.

In Carlos' mind, his life is damn near perfect. He's got a great job, a great place to live, and a great stash of pickup lines that always work. It has occurred to him that maybe no one actually takes him all that seriously. But with these bulging biceps and thick, dark hair, does that even matter since he's never sleeping alone?

Welcome to Weight Expectations, where great - and unexpected - things happen.

Contains mature themes.

Weird choice for male narrator

I actually liked the story quite a bit, but it was hard to get past the male narrator’s voice. It was annoying, but bearable at first, since towards the beginning of the book Carlos was a total tool. When the Carlos’ words became more heartfelt and genuine though, the narrator sounded anything but. I couldn’t help rolling my eyes because the narrator sounded like such a douche canoe. It made me kind of sad that I didn’t read the book instead. Now if I read it, I probably won’t be able to hear Carlos with any other voice in my head.

Cute Story

I guess I’m too used to read erotica. The story was cute, but I would have loved to see how Carlos handled Rian behind closed doors. Otherwise, it was a sweet romantic story. The narration wasn’t my favorite, but it grew on me. The story meant more.

Big Girls Unite!

There are a lot of plus size influencers not to forget Melissa McCarthy (who is beautiful). Carlos was a smart man but needed to touch the young lady with his mouth on her center. IJS Carlos sounds like he is drunk. Man up the voice get husky, sir!

We don’t choose love, it chooses us

I liked the representation of the plus size female population. I didn’t lime the male reader though. I still finished the book, but the voice of the guy… Nope! I wanted to slap him on the face 🤣

Good

Nice read. Relatively clean. Drags a tiny bit at the beginning but has some funny moments to offset. Likable characters, realistic, sweet friendship and adorably romantic.

Narration not great from either actor but passable.

i recommend reading the series

im a huge penny reid fan, i recommend reading the knitting in the city books first to understand more of these spin off smartypants romance series (i like the Winston brothers series even more). the book was good overall, but i felt it lacked something. like characters weren't fully developed. but i liked the main characters and the supporting ones fine. narration,,,I'm sorry i just didn't like the male lead. i got used to it and finished, but not my favorite. he sounded like a wanna be surfer.

Very cute without the typical meet-cute

I really enjoyed this story! I’ll admit that it took a little longer than I’d like to get through the getting to know our main character chapters, but I’m glad I pressed on.
I really appreciated the well honed insights into relationships.

Re-record and make it aHit!!

The story itself is quite good. It cutoffs have used more sex, too be more realistic. The female narrator was okay, she went "shatner" a few too many times, but not enough to complain about. Overall her performs was witty and entertaining. The male narrator was horrific initially and just really bad after 50% of the book passed. The character as written was hard enough to like, combining it with this narrator is a mistake. Please do yourself a favor and re-record this with a new male narrator and you'd get an overwhelming positive response and an increase in sales.
