Instead of being tortured, as he expected, for posing as a priest, Vittorio confounds the Visconti Lord with his glib responses and finds himself faced with an offer “he dare not refuse” - to travel as a “saint” with the Visconti army to counter the cardinal traveling with the opposing army.
But will the thief be able to convince ecclesiastical authorities of his “saintliness”? The punishment for posing as a priest could mean ending his days hanging in a cage as the world watches.
This is an adventure story, with surprising twists, clever schemes, and a colorful blend of adventure, romance, and humor. It also paints a vivid picture of the violence, cruelty, and intrigue of medieval Italy.
