About this listen

Recently widowed, Rivkah refuses to submit to the Torah law compelling her to marry her husband's brother and instead flees Kedesh, hoping to use her talents as a scribe to support herself. Without the protections of her father, Kedesh's head priest, and the safety of the city of refuge, Rivkah soon discovers that the cost of recklessness is her own freedom.

Malakhi has secretly loved Rivkah for years, but he never imagined his older brother's death would mean wedding her himself. After her disappearance, he throws himself into the ongoing fight against the Canaanites instead of dwelling on all he has lost. But with impending war looming over Israel, Rivkah's father comes to Malakhi with an impossible request.

As the enemies that Rivkah and Malakhi face from without and within Israel grow more threatening each day, is it too late for the restoration their wounded souls seek?

Great story, frustrating narrator

This series is amazing. I love the stories. Not a huge fan of the narrator tho. She pronounces the names differently from book to book so it's a bit confusing and annoying.

Difficult Road of a Prodigal

When all hope seems lost with a prodigal, disappointment and shame a constant garment for a young Jewish woman, Yahweh uses the unexpected rejected younger betrothed brother and a praying father to bring forgiveness, restoration and merciful blessings. Unexpected story weaving kept me enthralled. A wonderful story of God giving beauty from ashes.

Voice of male characters lost in female narrator

I love C. Cossette 's books. I could list complements indefinitely. It's the 4 stars on performances I must mention. Rachel's skill at speaking the male voices is weak.

Wonderful #3 in the series

This was the third in the Cities of Refuge Series. Wonderful to reconnect with characters from past stories. It was a great read and gave more insight into the times when the Israelites were in the first 50 years of being in the Promised Land

loved the narrator- what a great read !

loves the narrator, whom can make a good book hard to get through and a not so good book much easier to finish! loved the story and I was surprised throughout; up to this point in the series I have not been disappointed!

Favorite in the series...

This is my favorite book in the series. Cossette is one of my favorite Christian fiction authors and she did a masterful job with this novel. I appreciate the character growth for Rivkah and Malakhi and can relate to many aspects in the story.

Rachel Botchen was decent as the narrator, she just isn’t my favorite. My complaint with her is inconsistency with the pronunciation of names from each novel.
