Yet, her seemingly endless search for helpful guidance led her down a rabbit hole with no end in sight.

A must read for family members of someone addicted to drugs!

I cannot recommend this book enough. It has changed our family forever!!! Not only does he share his story, which help in understanding the mindset of an addict. But he also provides guidance for how to respond effective and support without enabling. This book will change you, I promise!

Great book!

As a family member of an addict, this was a great resource. There is a fine line between helping and enabling and this book helps define those lines.

Self revelation.

I just finished your book. I have found it eye opening to my enabling of my son's addiction. It was hard to accept but I know deep down I was doing this all along. I now know I have to stop the way I allow him to manipulate me and put on my "Emotional raincoat "as you so very well put it. Thank you so very much for sharing your story. I know it is going to put me on the right path to recovery. God bless you and your family 🙏 As a side note I don't understand why it's so hard and expensive for people without the means to get long term in house treatment. Unfortunately that has been a hard obstacle to overcome for my son.

I have listen to this book more than once.

And every time I have listened, I have learned something new that has helped me in my life. It is filled with wisdom and truth. I would recommend it to anyone ready to learn more about boundaries, forgiveness, and how to have empathy for someone who may be causing you pain. It will help you understand how to protect yourself while letting go of what you can’t control. It also helping spell out how you can stop contributing to the problem. So good.

Wow. Spot on! Most real book I’ve read on addiction!

I cannot express how Much I can relate to this book. I am sure every attics can relate to this book, it is insane how often do you realize that you are not alone the moment you relapse. It is the addiction talking; telling you they you are worthless and alone. I have struggled with addiction for most of my life. I had a really good stretch of sobriety a few years ago, I had opened a fitness boutique studio, and was extremely into fitness. I was competing in Bodybuilding shows and even qualified and competed on a National stage in Vegas the year I relapsed. I was completely unprepared for the tragic loss of both my parents in a plane accident that occurred just a few short days before Thanksgiving the year 2019. I’ve been struggling getting sober since, and this book reminded me, that I DO know how to get clean and stay clean, but I am not ready to quite yet. Doing so, means saying goodbye to my sister, which is the last living family member I have left. It’s too hard for me right now, and she is much too comfortable to quit. BUT this book couldn’t be more spot on, with its information on how to help a loved one. My mom figured it out with me a few years before she died, and enabling the addict is only hurting them. It’s like giving them the bullets to put in their gun to kill themself. It’s hard to say no, but think of it that way- like giving them bullets- in the long run, I promise you will not regret it!

I found this book to be very helpful in giving practical advice for those with addicted loved ones. Especially parents. I plan on listening again because it is packed with great nuggets of wisdom!
