About this listen

A little girl gets snatched while playing in the snow, and her tiny body is found days later. This is a 43-year-old murder mystery that was finally solved, but was it really? There are many people who don't think so.

There's also the story of a transgender woman who died in terribly suspicious circumstances, a case that would come to be the focus of change among the local police force due to the interactions she had with officers on the night of her death as well as the cause of an outcry among the community.

And who really killed the Al-Hilli family in the French Alps, leaving two little girls without parents, and why? Was there a link to a Middle Eastern dictator? What secrets did Mrs. Al-Hilli keep from her family?

These are just a few of the cases discussed in this true crime anthology. From the victim or victims, the crime scenes, and the criminal investigations that ensued, we follow 12 true crime stories, some of which are solved and some that are still mysteries. We also take a look at cases where wrongful convictions have occurred and why. These true murder stories will take you on a journey across the globe and even back in time in some cases. Family massacres, individual true crime murder cases, and situations where murder goes unseen in suicide cases, plus many more, will all keep you enthralled from chapter to chapter.

Very Short Form True Crime

Any additional comments?

I find these short true crime stories lacking in details that I would have liked to have been privy to. I would recommend this book to listeners that like a birds eye view of true crime stories!

A very interesting book

This was one of those books that is hard to put down. It is an interesting combination of mostly unsolved cases. It is well researched and well written but, for me, the audible version could use a bit more distinction between case chapters. A couple times it seemed like we had started a new case and I listened for a bit trying to figure out the new scenario when it was more details on the prior case. Aside of this it was quite good!

Excellent Compilation of True Crime Stories!!

This was one of the better books of True Crime compilations that I have read/listened to. The stories chosen were each written impeccably with immense detail and background for each. Some of the stories I have heard of but not with such detail and a smooth delivery. This is an author that I will be watching for any future books.

The narration by Herschel J. Grangent Jr. was perfect. He has excellent pace, tone, timing and voice inflection. He kept me engaged throughout.

Needs a different voice director or narrator

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Being only a couple of hours to finish and that it was informative, I would say it was worth my time.

What did you like best about this story?

The collection and details of the murder cases.

What didn’t you like about Herschel J. Grangent Jr.’s performance?

Robotic. The tone makes one lose focus and seems too rehearsed. Places that should be emphasized with some emotion as the writer has shown to be excited or shocked are met with the same bland tone.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, because it isn't meant to be like a movie.

'Readers Digest' versions of True Crimes

the brief but complete stories

Who was your favorite character and why?

most memorable was little Maria kidnapped by Johnny and Johnny being identified years later by Maria's little friend

Which character – as performed by Herschel J. Grangent Jr. – was your favorite?

Not applicable. Grangent's voice is pleasant to listen to, but he did not pay attention to punctuation marks. It seemed like he was reading run on sentences as he did not take a breath between sentences, paragraphs or chapters.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

That horrific crimes occur all around us, regardless of where we live.

very good thanks Jack Rosewood..

I really liked the narration and the specific detail the Author gives to tring to get into the killers mind.. I downloaded the Kindle book on a free promo and was happily astonished to find an involving, expertly written story. This guy knows how to write in first person and build scenes tangible enough for the reader to stand and look around in.. The psychic connections and miraculous occurrences at the end kind of came out of left field, but by that time. I had. become so engrossed in the angst that I bought into all of it.
