Formulaic, but intense

On a couple of the stories the narration could've been better. Overall though it's done fairly well. All the stories follow the exact same formula, which probably wouldn't be a problem if you weren't listening one right after the other.

The stories themselves are disquieting at a minimum, and I had to take several breaks on some of them just processing the depths of depravity.

The worst of humanity

Ryan has a way of telling each story that grabs the reader and immerses them directly into the story. I liken it to watching a movie in your head, as you read or in this case listen to the tale being retold. Most of these killers were already well known to me as I’m a huge fan of True Crime, however his descriptions and adaptations left me shaken from time to time hearing tiny tidbits about the Torture Mom that others left out, or putrid stories of the early life of Henry Lee and Ottis that I was glad I didn’t really know. Now, I can’t unknow them…It is hard to believe such evil walks among us, but it does. I have never felt the need to pause a story or pause reading, due to the content. This one made me pause twice, and feel for the victims at the hands of such vile and repulsive human beings, that I have never felt before.

My only dislike, and it’s purely my preference, I don’t like it when the narrators try to imitate women and/or children. I would prefer to just hear them read it in their own voice.

Branched out from the typical high profile killers everyone knows

Learned about several killers that I didn’t have any prior knowledge about. The ones I did offered new details and insights.

Strange

First couple chapters are good, informative, to the point. As the book goes on the chapters seem to get longer and more unnecessarily detailed and adding humanizing feelings and emotions to killers (most of which are unfounded and seemingly made up for the books sake - or at least I cannot find evidence of). It starts reading like some kind of fantasy crime novel instead of true crime. Very very off putting, I couldn’t keep listening.

Superb Retelling of known and unknown

Ryan Green’s deep dive into some well known and unknown cases is great. His version brought new light to cases I thought I knew - I recommend

what was supposed to be dull and boring was exciting and thrilling to listen to

I had no expectations for this book, it was on sale and I thought why not it'll be good background noise. but I really got sucked into it, the author and the narrator does a good job at making a documentary kind of book into a horror book. it's exciting to listen to I'm glad I bought it.

Unbelievable! Wow

Each of these stories in this book was so unbelievable that there are actually people out there that can do the things the so called humans did. Couldn’t put book down! Very Interesting!

extreme dramatization

interesting stories, however the author took massive liberties to embellish the stories. Law and Order would have gone as far as this author did.
