About this listen
On board a generation ship bound for a new Earth, the teaching device broken, the true nature of the ship long forgotten, the Captain unseen, Glyn stumbles upon the ancient journal of a young crewman of the third generation of travelers. Soon afterwards, a series of malfunctions brings about a revelation as to the true nature of their ship, and only then can their journey begin in a bewildering and dangerous land.
There are three stories that were written to form a loose series called The Sapient Continuum - Transplant, Greenways, and The Tribe (formerly known as The Inosculation Syndrome). Purists would listen to them in that order, but Reynolds-Moreton has crafted his tales so cleverly that they can be listened to in any order, or just those that you choose.
Fans of prequels might enjoy listening to The Tribe first. The astute listener may even find nods to this series in his other books, of which we’re proud to publish over 20 at the time of writing this introduction.

Story
For generations, a sentient AI watched over the world, solving all of humanity’s problems. It was an era of objectivity, social equality, and ecological recovery. It should have been a golden age. Now, three strangers are on a pilgrimage through the arid, lonely sagelands and underpopulated cities of the Systemic era to the seemingly innocuous town of Prower. There, they'll uncover the secrets that lay buried beneath the town and learn the truth about their half-remembered pasts. In the end, they'll choose between their sanity or solving humanity’s final, most intractable problem.

The story of Island in the Sky centers around a young man, who, after brilliantly winning a space-related competition, requests a vacation on a space station as his prize. It is written with Arthur C. Clark's obvious knowledge of science, but moves at a page turning rate throughout the entire narrative. The short novel gives a realistic possibility of work and play in future space, heightened with constant excitement and action.

The Eden Project was a dream. To start the first extra-solar colony... To avoid the mistakes of our past... To start anew. Three generations, born and raised on a starship hurtling through space. To never know an open sky... To never feel the wind on their face... To never witness the sun rise or set. It is up to the advance team to set foot on each of these worlds, conduct their surveys, and send their findings back to the colony ship. So many questions... So little time... Such an enormous responsibility.

Standing on the Rim, surrounded by the profound and almost mystical silence, Fletcher knew that something had happened to the way he looked at things. He also knew that the Canyon, with its depths and distances, cliffs, buttes, and hanging terraces, beckoned to him, calling him on a journey that would challenge both his body and his mind.

what happens after
I received a free code for this book.
Enjoyed the story, and particularly liked the bit of where the spacecraft was going, and where it ended up. Found some actions taken by the hero's to be a bit unbeleivable. A good read, and I will continue with the rest of the series.

pretty good listen
I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.
I enjoy generation ship stories, this one was no exception. I do wish the author had gone more into detail regarding the ship and project, but it was entertaining none the less to follow the main character as he explores his environment. I enjoyed this listen and while some details seemed glossed over somewhat, the overall story was easy to follow and moved along at a good pace. The book room segments were probably the portions I found most enjoyable.

Started slowly...but I ended up loving it!
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Like the title says, this book started out kind of slow, but it picked up and I really enjoyed it. However, if you are looking for an action packed novel, this one is not for you. This is a much more cerebral story with the characters needing to figure things out as they go along. The narrator could be a little more excited at times, but he does not detract from the story at all.

An interesting far future adventure
I enjoyed this book. It's hard to discuss it without too many spoilers, but I'll do by best. Most of the story was fairly believable and relied on some established tropes of the genre. It was well executed and the performance was great. When the story takes a turn it loses some credibility, primarily because the characters seem to possess knowledge that they couldn't otherwise. How does a person who grew up on a spaceship understand where the sun will rise? Especially when the "Teacher" computer hasn't been functioning for generations? This is the sort of knowledge that would be lost without a reference point.
Overall a good read that I recommend. Given the direction the book takes at the end, any followups would be vastly different types of stories than this one.

On to book 2
This story ends rather abruptly.
I knew where they really were in the beginning. Not to give it away but it was obvious to me.
The story progresses really well until the end, it seems a bit rushed and forced so that book 2 can get started. I did really enjoy it. It did seem odd that the inhabitants of the ship would just let their extensive knowledge and skills wain over time. It got to the point some didn’t even know what books were. For the initial planners of the ship it seems they didn’t plan all that well. Education and knowledge are key to survival.
Narration by Christopher Kendrick was great.
